Nathan wrote a good article. I'm quote tweeting in the Black way (to talk about a different point without derailing his thread). 🤔If Ben thinks you need to play football to build character, learn teamwork, leadership, etc, and girls don't play football... what does that say about his view of women?

This shift to computerized state tests was made possible by schools' adoption of one-to-one devices. Which mostly happened with Covid. And yet, we rarely discuss the possibility that computerizing tests--without first teaching computing skills--might've contributed to subsequent test score declines.

This is fascinating. The bots have been trained to launder their agendas through dubious ties to Black organizations and causes? - personal anecdotes or stories from someone else that create justifications for poor practice. Who is it for?

Being able to read isn’t just about being able to sound out words and literally understand a meaning of each one. It is also about being able to use context clues to obtain meaning from a text and make sense of its message.

At $1,000/hr, nonstop 24/7/365, it would take ~114 years to make a billion dollars. That would mean 114,000 years to make a trillion dollars. This thief is 54 years old.

The recs in this framework are great, but we do not need GenAI to do them. They have been core to the work of the ELA classroom for many decades. This framework assumes the tech is inevitable, admits it is unwanted, and glosses over the ethical, environmental, etc. concerns. Disappointing.

Gotta say, having been in the initial convening on which this framework was to be based, these recs feel way out of step with the serious concerns folks were voicing about AI's commercial capture of education, teacher deskilling, short-circuiting of reading/writing processes, environmental costs.

One reason Republicans are banning books and classes on race is because reading even one book about Jim Crow or Reconstruction makes it clear that they are hoping to reinstate segregation.

As I said with my concert song today, you can see how quickly folks can move things when wanting to hold onto/gain power, usually at the cost for someone else, compared to doing things to help all folks or those lower in status.

This is my situation right now. I was on one for 5 months, and it was helping to readjust my ratios away from resistance, but the insurance company changed their requirements. Now I no longer qualify. It’s an arbitrary change, a semantic one, that is exhausting to fight.

What’s most annoying about this is it assumes economic insecurity is a product of individual “skills gaps” as opposed to a structural condition of our political/economic systems. So now Ss are trapped in a system obsessed with job prep at a time when every company is gutting their future jobs.
