Deeside Sparrow @deesidesparrow.bsky.social · 22hInevitably ... I'm confirming jackdaws here as well. FBsOMD seven o'clock jackdaw gathering across two roof under grey clouds. Eight jackdaws today. 1100
Deeside Sparrow @deesidesparrow.bsky.social · 04/10/2026Interesting. I haven't seen birds near the hedge-adjacent water dish often, though I don't keep a watch on it! Once, after sterilising, a female sparrow flew to it immediately after I had withdrawn the vicinity and took hydration. I drew the conclusion from that to ensure it was kept topped up. 🙂 110
Deeside Sparrow @deesidesparrow.bsky.social · 04/10/2026Yes, it was jackdaws who had the incredible streak almost all of the autumn in 2025. It had me speculating at the time that a morning gathering at the start of the month, on the biggest roof opposite, was their planning council to agree strategy and tactics to achieve maximum FBOMD! 🩶🖤😆 010
Deeside Sparrow @deesidesparrow.bsky.social · 04/10/2026Yes, no rain during the whole month of September!! You've had it bad where you are in recent times. I aim to sterilise the sparrows' water dish every couple of days. "Do no harm." 🐦❤️ 010
Deeside Sparrow @deesidesparrow.bsky.social · 04/10/2026Female house sparrow 'mild concern' look is very distinctive to my eyes and heart string tugging! They watch all developments carefully and you can easily see when they are wary of occurrences and monitoring potential threats to their families. 110
Deeside Sparrow @deesidesparrow.bsky.social · 04/10/2026FYI this is the same sort of vessel I use for the house sparrow water supply by the edge of the privet hedge in the front garden. Handy for frequent v. short-term withdrawal to sterilise not wasting water. A female sparrow watched with a mild concern expression when she saw a juv. blackbird sip! 😄 310
Deeside Sparrow @deesidesparrow.bsky.social · 04/10/2026Saturday was the jackdaw three-day streak and 100% FBOMD for the month of October 2026 so far! 😃 I reckon jackdaw will certainly exceed 50% FBOMD this month, barring me taking an exceptional course of action such as going out walking an hour before dawn. 😆 130
Deeside Sparrow @deesidesparrow.bsky.social · 04/10/2026Jackdaws again FBsOMD, though unusually my sighting was of three - two on an aerial, one on the adjacent chimney pot - with the aerial subject to a BOOYYYNGggg! when the pair left together. 180
Deeside Sparrow @deesidesparrow.bsky.social · 03/10/2026A beautiful morning twilight observation of the weeks around the equinoxes! 050
Deeside Sparrow @deesidesparrow.bsky.social · 03/10/20266.45am peach colours in the eastern sky & FBOMD a sentry jackdaw keeping a watch stood partially hidden by a chimney pot. The early arriving bird from their overnight roost. 15 minutes later 10 jackdaws across three roofs 1, 5 & 4 respectively. 1110
Deeside Sparrow @deesidesparrow.bsky.social · 02/10/2026Today's autumn gathering on roofs opposite - between their roost dispersal & first daylight tasks - was one jackdaw pair stronger than yesterday! 7am FBsOMD = 1️⃣4️⃣ fourteen jackdaws. 2140

Deeside Sparrow @deesidesparrow.bsky.social · 02/10/2026It looks to me like it is a pause in a mediation between the two on the left and the two adult males on the right. The sparrow in the middle looks like a natural peacemaker - well capable of successfully concluding the mediation - but the dispute resolution isn't over the line ... yet! 🤎🩶🖤😄 110
Deeside Sparrow @deesidesparrow.bsky.social · 02/10/2026Beware of a mockingbird scorned (mockingbird perceiving a slight)! 🎵🔊😬 Auto-correct 0-1 Dauphne 👊 110
Deeside Sparrow @deesidesparrow.bsky.social · 02/10/2026It seems, in this instance, like Maggie's had the last laugh! 🖤🤍😃 010
Deeside Sparrow @deesidesparrow.bsky.social · 01/10/2026I hope you finished off your intended backyard tasks okay. 110
Deeside Sparrow @deesidesparrow.bsky.social · 01/10/2026✅️ Quite right! It simply must be heard or seen using own 👂or 👀 to record the winter arrival of the white-throated sparrows. 🙂 120
Deeside Sparrow @deesidesparrow.bsky.social · 01/10/2026The jackdaw clan exceeded their muster on the roofs opposite 48 hours earlier! 😎 1️⃣2️⃣ Twelve jackdaws were FBsOMD on a bright, cool autumn morning; silently swapping places, enjoying moments of calm before getting busy on the new day. 1150
Deeside Sparrow @deesidesparrow.bsky.social · 30/09/2026By Keeping Calm & Carrying On with a feather self-maintenance routine whilst perched on nextdoor's TV aerial - despite the rain - a wood pigeon got another FBOMD for the species. 😄 0130
Deeside Sparrow @deesidesparrow.bsky.social · 30/09/2026Yep, the jackdaws were out in force first thing, which was morale raising. A wet beginning to Tuesday was a challenging occurrence with the fortnightly municipal garden waste collection coming up this week! 😟 110
Deeside Sparrow @deesidesparrow.bsky.social · 30/09/2026Ah, that's such a welcome 'in other news' item! 💫🥰 And, the Merlin discovery was following a female cardinal observation of aesthetic piquancy. A fine start to the birding day in your location. 🐦😄 120
Deeside Sparrow @deesidesparrow.bsky.social · 29/09/2026👍 www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...bbc.co.ukNew homes for swifts installed across ChesterfieldFive neighbourhoods have welcomed 70 new homes for the under-threat migratory bird. 082
Deeside Sparrow @deesidesparrow.bsky.social · 29/09/2026❤️🖤🧡 I reckon the backyard Cardinals all looked handsome and tip-top! 😊 111
Deeside Sparrow @deesidesparrow.bsky.social · 29/09/2026Male Passer domesticus will undertake cavity nest 'refurbishment' at almost any time of the year in my understanding of their habitual behaviours. It's just what they do! 🤷♂️ Bless 'em. 😄 160
Deeside Sparrow @deesidesparrow.bsky.social · 29/09/2026Ten jackdaws congregated across two rain-glossy roofs opposite. Even numbers of them on each roof. Two flew across the road probably going to the trees as I heard tchaking from that quarter. 190
Deeside Sparrow @deesidesparrow.bsky.social · 29/09/2026The robin's song is a mainstay. It keeps up the morale of everyone who notices birds from the autumn to the spring equinox, through some cold, gloomy, short days as robins carry on singing. They also appear to surge with pre-spring energy singing enthusiastically then from the highest branches. 🎵❤️🤎😄 110
Deeside Sparrow @deesidesparrow.bsky.social · 28/09/2026A jackdaw perched on a chimney pot three houses away, followed by seeing a jackdaw hopping up to perch on an aerial two houses away, followed by admiring a jackdaw striding along the roof apex next door. 🖤🩶😄 0110
Deeside Sparrow @deesidesparrow.bsky.social · 28/09/2026Something of a basic avian neighbour that the great majority of first birders take for granted (obvious exceptions @dauphne.bsky.social & @ukulady.bsky.social). Here's hoping a robin pair does establish a territory near you! 🤞 230
Deeside Sparrow @deesidesparrow.bsky.social · 27/09/2026A jackdaw flying over the house was FBOMD depriving four wood pigeons on the roofs across the street watching me emerge from the frontdoor of 🥇🐦 honour! 160
Deeside Sparrow @deesidesparrow.bsky.social · 26/09/2026FBsOYD prompted me to just spend some time looking at juvenile cardinal images and the 'Birdfacts' site's explanations of how this species's young mature and the extent to which the parents continue to be involved when multiple broods feature. They're such cuties, aren't they? 😍 120
Deeside Sparrow @deesidesparrow.bsky.social · 26/09/2026😆 From a jackdaw's perspective, this certainly appears to be a suitable analogy for how they regard a row of houses with varying styles of chimney pots. Jackdaws take such evident satisfaction being playful around chimney stacks, looking down at them and popping down into chimney pots! 😄 010
Deeside Sparrow @deesidesparrow.bsky.social · 26/09/2026'Spadge', in an avian context, is a dialect word for sparrow in Derbyshire and Yorkshire in particular; a shortening of 'spadger' an historical name for sparrow in English. So the 1st bird was a House sparrow using ivy for concealment from potential predators. 180
Deeside Sparrow @deesidesparrow.bsky.social · 25/09/2026The dependable neighbourhood American robins! 👋 010
Deeside Sparrow @deesidesparrow.bsky.social · 25/09/2026FBsOMD were 2 rattle & chatter magpies on side of a house roof. 3rd bird a v. young, timid wood pigeon that took up a camouflaged 'safe' position on grey standing against pinkish bricks of the house having walked up after me having put out the recycling. ♻️ Hoping for speedy recovery for you. 000
Deeside Sparrow @deesidesparrow.bsky.social · 25/09/2026Jackdaws, a pair hopping on chimneys beyond the nearer house with the louvre chimney. These two drew my attention to the wide variety of chimney pot designs on those houses. No wonder jackdaws spend so much time in the vicinity it's a 'chimney theme park'! 😁 2140
Deeside Sparrow @deesidesparrow.bsky.social · 24/09/2026#3rdBOMD walked after me returning from putting out the recycling ♻️. A young, timid wood pigeon that took up a camouflaged position on grey standing against pinkish bricks of the house. ❤️ No apparent welfare issue. Deeside Sparrow @deesidesparrow.bsky.social · 23/09/2026Side-by-side FBsOMD pair-bonded jackdaws, mooching around the rims of delectibly round, reddish-brown chimneys. Appropriate Autumn Equinox 1st birds, going into the darker mornings when I'll frequently see tchak tchaking roost dispersal arrivals! 😄 0100
Deeside Sparrow @deesidesparrow.bsky.social · 23/09/2026A Debut First Bird appearance for Audouin's Gull, methinks! Nice one, @tycjanc.bsky.social plus you were lucky enough to hear some chirruping. Happy days. 🙌 😃 160
Deeside Sparrow @deesidesparrow.bsky.social · 22/09/2026My 1st bird the same, though not a typical FBOMD species I spot. 040

Deeside Sparrow @deesidesparrow.bsky.social · 21/09/2026😁 Yes! It certainly felt like the wood pigeon FBOMD hattrick last week was the result of quite a bit of effort on their part to make sure I noticed them. 010
Deeside Sparrow @deesidesparrow.bsky.social · 20/09/2026Nice! A rarity this Sunday that, walking on the banks of the Dee, I actually didn't see any cormorants at all. A week ago, I had an interesting watch of one stood on a sandbank, not holding its wings out, but rather preening & using a foot to scratch neck. 050
Deeside Sparrow @deesidesparrow.bsky.social · 20/09/2026A solo stroll in the sunshine by a jackdaw on two sloping sections of tiles, including over the semi-circular roof ridge, enabled by effortless ease in using passerine feet and flexible avian legs. 050
Deeside Sparrow @deesidesparrow.bsky.social · 19/09/2026A single, though lively chirrup, which caused me to look in the right place to secure the briefest glimpse of a little bird disappearing into the privet hedge. A welcome return of House sparrow as my 1st bird! 🥇🐦 Hope you'll be on the mend soonest. 🤞 0130
