Here's today's column on the astonishing, ongoing mistreatment of people with #ME/CFS. Please spread it far and wide: the only thing which can break the media's wall of indifference is seeing an article about the issue go viral. Thank you. 1/2 www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

A rather significant life update from me! Thank you for everything, @ftww.bsky.social ❤️
Time for a new chapter! ✍️
After five years with FTWW, I’ve decided to move on at the end of April to focus on my health and my writing.
Since graduating from my MA in Creative Writing, balancing writing and my job with my health has become increasingly difficult. I’ve reached a point where I need to see if I can make the dream of being a 'proper' writer a reality.
I am so proud of everything we’ve achieved at FTWW and leaving isn’t an easy choice. A huge thank you to my colleagues and the community—I’m looking forward to continuing my support as a volunteer and ME Champion.
What’s next? Alongside my writing projects (including finally finishing my novel), I’ll be taking on a limited amount of freelance [writing / editing / PR / marketing] work. If you’d like to collaborate, please get in touch!

Today is #SevereMEDay, where we remember those we have died from severe ME and to advocate for better understanding, research, and support for those living with this debilitating condition. Our thoughts are with them, and their loved ones left behind.
Severe ME Awareness Week
Remembering those we have lost, and sharing glimmers of hope for the future...Living with Severe ME
About 25% of Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (ME) patients will be severely disabled.
They might be:
housebound and bedbound 24/7
Unable to sit up in bed much or at all
Unable to tolerate light or sounds, and have to stay in dark rooms with eye masks and ear protection
In need of 24 hour care
Unable to eat or drink, and need to be tube-fedLouise's story: “I am bedridden in a dark room for weeks on end. It's not something one can easily describe, but I do appreciate when people try to understand.
Remember that ME is not tiredness - nothing can portray the complete annihilation of energy we experience and the effect that has on daily life. Last week I was physically struggling to swallow food. Many struggle with basic tasks like brushing teeth. I can't engage in my usual hobbies.
But, there is always hope, and simple understanding and accommodations
can make all the difference in the world.” Next to the story is a photo of Louise, a white person with shaved hair, smiling gently to the camera.Speaking of hope, Decode ME’s Initial DNA study results have been published. Intial findings show:
Your genes contribute to your chances of developing ME/CFS.
People with an ME/CFS diagnosis have significant genetic differences in their DNA compared to the general population.

FTWW Public Statement on Welfare Reform Proposals www.ftww.org.uk/ftww-public-...
FTWW Public Statement on Welfare Reform ProposalsAs a disabled people’s organisation (DPO) FTWW understands and shares concerns being expressed by many disabled people and our community regarding recent proposals for welfare reform in the UK.
FTWW was founded in 2014 because of the additional barriers disabled and chronically ill women and people assigned female at birth (AFAB) in Wales can face in trying to access healthcare and support.
Common themes of lack of specialist care, long diagnostic delays, and a lack of research data about health conditions that uniquely or disproportionately impact us can often result in our health deteriorating, leaving people unable to work / work full-time, sometimes without the resources and support they need.FTWW will now be looking closely at the UK Government’s green paper and consultation, as well as the upcoming draft Disability Rights Action Plan from the Welsh Government, with the experiences, needs, and priorities of disabled women and people AFAB, and those living with fluctuating and non-visible health conditions firmly in mind.
We remain committed to coproduction, and will work with our members to ensure their views, experiences, and expertise are represented in our responses. In the meantime, please know that we are here to support our community as much as we can. If you are a woman or person assigned female at birth, living and / or receiving healthcare in Wales, and you would like to join our peer-led community, you may do so here: facebook.com/groups/ftww.wales
We also encourage people to write to their Members of Parliament (MPs) and Members of the Senedd (MSes) to share your concerns and the impact these proposals may have on you / your loved ones.

After a frankly devastating day, I'm feeling much less despondent following the fantastic #DPAC meeting tonight. Huge thanks to @paulapeters19.bsky.social and team for making it happen and helping us to feel empowered and to everyone who shared such fantastic ideas. Get involved if you can! ❤️

New drinking game! Here's how it works: - Drink every time a Labour MP says "working people" - Die very quickly of alcohol poisoning - No need to worry about losing PIP due to being dead already
