There was a time when the Tories, however hypocritically, claimed to want to protect our natural heritage. Now they're just a party of vandals, ripping down the few protections the living world has for the sake of their rich chums. www.theguardian.com/politics/202...

Ending Triple Lock to contribute to a fully funded NHS style Social Care Model is fine with this pensioner if coupled with a wealth tax to fund the balance.

It would have been the politicians standard response. I'm tired of those. I would have preferred him to belittle the so called journalist for asking such a pathetic gotcha question.

True, the Trump regime is a great encouragement for the UK to rejoin the progressive EU and work with Canada to rebuild. Certainly I sold my US shares and invested in the EU and UK. Also cancelled tech subscriptions, moved my laptop from Windows to Linux & LibreOffice and sold my last Ford car.

Pandering to pathetic journalists is not what I want from our MPs. Tired of journalists wasting scant public resources on trivial gotcha stories. They need to grow up and focus the real issues, there's enough of them.

That means that they have no vision as they're bogged down by trivia at the behest of resource wasting stirrer. I want civil servants with an eye for detail and the ability to filter out the dross so that government can be strategic.

Conservative Governments made a habit of announcing things then dropping them. Is anyone surprised that this was just more Tory window dressing with no real intent of public spending? That might have required tax increases, or even worse progressive tax increases!

Why does a crackdown on Kremlin bot networks feel like a personal attack to Nigel #Farage? 🎯 Sunderland Echo 📰 highlights #ReformUK's uncomfortable links to Moscow. If they aren't a conduit for hostile disinformation, they have nothing to fear. #UKPolitics #DarkMoney #Disinformation #Russia 👇

A scanned clipping from the Sunderland Echo letters page on Friday, October 2, 2026, featuring two letters.
The main letter, headlined "Farage takes it all personally", questions why Nigel Farage assumes PM Andy Burnham’s new National Centre for Information Defence—designed to protect Britain from hostile state disinformation—is a personal attack on him. It points out Farage's uncomfortable links to Moscow, including paid appearances on Russia Today, Arron Banks' embassy meetings, and former close ally Nathan Gill serving 10-and-a-half years in prison for taking bribes to promote pro-Russian propaganda. The letter quotes US Democrat Jamie Raskin calling Farage a "Putin-loving free speech impostor" and notes a recent undercover sting into Reform UK's foreign donations. A large pull-quote reads: "Why does a British politician assume a crackdown on Kremlin-backed bot networks must be a personal attack on him?"
Below it is a shorter letter headlined "No credibility" by Jessica Goetia Brooking, criticizing Farage for ignoring police advice after an incident at RAF Fairford to jump on a political bandwagon, concluding he has "as much credibility as a bankrupt currency."

The new state pension that recent and future pensioners receive does fare better (£241 per week) but you have had to / will have to wait longer to receive it. In my case 1 year extra. In my wife's case 7 years extra meaning that she loses more than 7 * £12k = £84,000+. UK state pensions are poor.

Currently there are two types of state pension. The Basic State Pension that most current pensioners receive is still nowhere near restored back to the 26% of average earnings level that it was in 1980 when snatcher Thatcher broke the link. The Basic State Pension is currently £184 per week

Two tier policing. Victoria Thomas Bowen, who chucked a milkshake at Farage, was given a 13-week jail sentence, suspended for 12 months; had to pay him £150 compensation; had to complete 120 hours of unpaid work and pay £450 in court costs. It was nowhere near the level of violence of this assault.

Perhaps we need a prioritization scheme for resource usage by AI and, as the market controls everything, I suggest a water subscription model for data centres to create outcome values that reflect input costs. e.g. AI for Medical diagnostics ~ low charge, AI for creating porn images ~ high charge.
