Thatcher also broke the link between the State Pension and average earnings in 1980. Despite the 'Triple Lock' the Basic State Pension (that's the one the majority of current pensioners receive) still has not recovered its relationship. That's despite the decline in the value of average earnings!

In 1981 Thatcher broke the link with earnings when pensions were over 25% of earnings. Triple Lock has yet to restore their value to that level for the basic state pensions that the majority receive. The New State pension, that the minority receive, is closer to the 1981 level.

Opinion: The UK State Pension Triple Lock should end when the pension is back to 26% of average earnings, it's level before Thatcher broke the link with earnings. This should be the case independently for both the old & new state pensions Both should then be maintained at that level.

Since Scarborough Council was abolished and replaced by North Yorkshire Council the public gardens have been negelcted. The best colour now comes from the weed Valerian which itself competes with Brambles, Willow Herb and Sycamores to provide best cover for the rats nests.
