absolutely! when the weekly protest in Inglewood continued long after vaccine passports and mask mandates had been discarded, I figured this was now an Identity more than Issue

I spent a year watching school administrators do their jobs—and interviewing the students most impacted. I spoke to @thecut.com in a long-form Q&A about what I saw. Mainly, a system designed to protect perpetrators and punish victims in each and every case.

The Reason Why Colleges Still Fail to Address Sexual Violence

One of the first things Americans did, even before declaring independence from Britain, was invade Quebec in September of 1775, which meant not arriving for the big battle in Quebec City until November and December, losing the battle, having wrongly thought they'd be welcomed as liberators.

Always thinking about Tobi Haslett: "certain kinds of critics [...] are invested in displaying their exhaustion with politically inflected art. And I think: What are you exhausted with? Your closest experience to agitprop is Sesame Street. Your fatigue is so unearned, I can’t stand it."

rewatching the X-Files and obv Anderson and Duchovny have ridiculous chemistry but I’m now really enjoying just how much they’re on screen — the streaming version of a show like this would pad out the cast to make up for only getting them for two days per week

Impossible to understand how anyone could look at Rufo's career and conclude he was someone engaged in a "forthright defense of meritocracy." Rufo's entire career is built on the idea of purging people who don't think or look like him from positions of power.

This thread is inspired by a University of Utah alum who reached out after the New York Post wrote they had the highest reporting rate in the country. In Utah’s case, some crucial context is that there have been multiple high-profile murders of students in the past decade.

They quoted me in this New Yorker piece about AI today. www.newyorker.com/culture/the-...
“Let’s say there’s a world or time line I exist in where A.I. has been subject to regulation. It is ethical. It has no footprint environmentally,” the novelist Jeff VanderMeer, a prominent critic of A.I., told me over the phone. “With those guardrails in place, would I read an A.I. book? All I can say is no. And the reason is, in part, because I want to read something coming from a particular mind.” Using A.I., he said, “feels like a betrayal of the whole point of why you’re a writer.”
