Any artists, crafters, textile wizards, persons who do work requiring close visual acuity… If you’ve had cataract surgery, how did that impact your work? Have you found the secret lens sauce that allows you to do your work? #art #textiles #crafts #quilting #needlework 🪡🧶🎨

Do Not watch the execution. I’ve seen some on here saying we have to witness its horror. No, we don’t. It is a horror and an abomination. Those in charge want to make a spectacle out of the state killing a human being. They want to inure us to this. They want to dehumanize someone…

Gardeners, what are your favorite climbing roses to cover a large trellis. Not so bossy it will take over a house (I see you Cécile Brünner 🧐.) Preferably few to no thorns and disease resistant. 🌱

Took a walk in Discovery Park (Seattle) yesterday. Gorgeous day. And enjoyed a belted kingfisher (probably female) diving and cackling around a wooded pond. (Evidence I’m not a wildlife photographer: got too wrapt in the glory of her to think about taking a photo.) Here’s a stream instead:

Do you know what to do if you feel earthquake shaking? If you live in North America and the ground starts to shake the recommended action is to “drop, cover, and hold on”.

You might have seen this illustration. Apart from artistic liberties being taken with the width of the Atlantic, it's startling. But what if it was connected together and made *walkable*? What if you could commit *years* to walking it? Well - you can. Not all of it. But it's coming together! 1/
Diagram by Tasa Graphic Arts from 2009 showing the mountain ranges on both sides of the Atlantic that collectively mark the remnants of the ancient Central Pageant Mountains, covering the west coast of the upper US, Canada and Greenland, and the west coast of Scandinavia and Morocco, along with most of the north of the UK and Iceland.

From “The Grieving Brain” by Mary-Frances O’Connor, PhD
A key problem in grief is that there is a mismatch between the virtual map we always use to find our loved ones, and the reality, after they die, that they can no longer be found in the dimensions of space and time. The unlikely situation that they are not on the map at all, the alarm and confusion that this causes, is one reason grief overwhelms us.

My portmanteau of the day: Mournado - a devastating, ground-churning whirlwind of grief. Sometimes it drops from the sky right on top of you. Sometimes you watch it from a distance and wonder if it’s going to hit. Sometimes it rips you off your foundation and wrecks your sense of home.

I like this notetaking example. it is a good case of how gender works. Notetaking has never been about producing a transcript. It is a bureaucratic skill in the 20th c. organixarion because it is SENSEMAKING. Those women socialized to take notes? They have been doing men’s metacognition for them

There’s also something to how women are socialized to be suspicious of flattery — it’s how we transfer responsibility for men’s desire onto women’s bodies; we are taught to defend against that in service to our “innocence” or whatever — whereas men accept flattery as their due. Perfect marks.
