This is fully and completely badass.

This is going to sound psychotic but there’s a weird little dude at the coffee shop who’s so confident he knows my order that he starts making it as soon as he sees me. I hate that. I’m going to pick a time to change my order while he’s making it just to fuck with him.

Rewatched Magnolia. There’s a lot to love about this movie, but it’s also like the definition of overwrought. Unquestionably this is a Helluva Film™️, but I think it’s a little too pleased with its own intricacy, scope and extravagance. It’s probably pretty great, but it’s also deeply imperfect.

Finished this. It’s beautifully written and there are some exquisite scenes here, but I have to say it didn’t quite do it for me on the whole.

It’s not on streaming, nor is it rentable or buyable in any digital format. I had to buy the Criterion DVD.

Watched Short Cuts for the first time last night and I think it might be one of the greatest movies of all time.

Still making my way through it. About 3/4 of the way through. It’s not my favorite book, but it has some excellent moments. Will withhold overall judgment until I’m done.

I made a few and deleted them, but yeah you’re more or less right

Gonna write a book that ends with the sentence: “And then 9/11 happened.”

Interesting. Norwegian Wood felt almost Salinger-esque to me, and it was the first book of his that I read. I just loved it. I’m not as into fantastical stuff, which I know is in a lot of his books, with Norwegian Wood being perhaps the only exception?

Disastro @deadastroman.bsky.social · 14/08/2026

It’s only the third book of his that I’ve read. I found it endlessly readable, and enjoyable, but I’m not sure it was always great literary work. So far, Norwegian Wood is far and away my favorite from him. Not sure if anything else will compare.

Disastro @deadastroman.bsky.social · 14/08/2026

The Little People were creepy, but pretty much left unexplored. They turn up for a total of like 5 pages in this 1,100-page book, and their presence/purpose is never really explained or resolved. Same goes for a lot of plot points in this, actually.

Disastro @deadastroman.bsky.social · 13/08/2026

Finished this. It was pretty wild at times, but I think it would have been a better book if all the fantastical elements had been removed entirely. Anyway, probably my second-favorite Murakami so far. It has nothing on Norwegian Wood, though.

“Have you considered that you might be a stupid fucking asshole?” is something I feel compelled to say arguably MUCH too often.

I need to know more about this

020

It’s not my favorite Nolan film, but it’s in the upper tier. A tremendous movie that will get even better with subsequent viewings. I urge you to see it. The racists & transphobes are not gonna win this one, but—might as well be part of the reason why they lose, right? /🧵

030

The visuals are for the most part incredible. The acting is perhaps not the film’s greatest strength, but it’s solid throughout. The combat scenes are visceral and it’s all done with a real elegance, even the most violent bits. And the score actually hits pretty hard. 3/4

120

It takes a while for it to really get going. Also, some of the early dialogue is hindered by Nolan’s rapid-fire method of delivering exposition & not letting lines breathe. BUT, once things get moving in earnest, it bloody cooks, mate. 2/4
