Forgive my intrusion, but here are 2 ideas for Q2: 1. Especially in the US and other modern countries: Design for recovery, not just safety. 2. Especially elsewhere: Aggressive mitigation of existing risks (i.e. seismic retrofit of buildings & infrastructure). The code is not set up to do either.

My question about the status of BRIC grants cancelled on a whim in April 2025 and still not restored, despite court orders nullifying the cancellation. The formal answer is "I cannot verify ..." the status of those grants, but it acknowledges the court orders, ongoing legal action, and FEMA/DHS foot-dragging.

Interesting take. Consistent with religious zealotry, what I see here is an obsession with terminology, and it's partly the fault of the questioner. TL is probably correct here, but by using the term addiction -- like genocide, consciousness, "assault rifle" -- we distract from the real issues.

I'm no AI booster, but I question whether jobs is the best measure of this new reality. Of course it's AN issue, but wouldn't it be better addressed by (Rawlsian) policy than by a weak moratorium? The problem, I admit, is that our policy-making is now corrupted ... in large part by the AI bros.
