Lucas @dbitlefty.bsky.social · 8hWill Warren averaged 96 with both of his fastballs last night and touched 98 for the first time since Opening Day. Totally different look out of the pen and I'm curious where he'll be in the pecking order next week. 110
Lucas @dbitlefty.bsky.social · 19hRed Sox looked completely overmatched, and it’s important to remember how unremarkable they were for much of the season outside of that crazy five-week stretch. 050
Lucas @dbitlefty.bsky.social · 30/09/2026A thing I sometimes look at: pitch count prior to final inning, as it reflects the manager's decision to send a guy back out better than raw pitch count. Schlittler's game yesterday (107 before the 7th) was second-highest in the Boone era, behind only the Gerrit Cole shutout in Houston in July 2021. 151
Lucas @dbitlefty.bsky.social · 26/09/2026Not much recent precedent for this, if you exclude openers. The last instance I can find was Tyler Anderson for the Mariners on September 25th/28th, 2021. 010
Lucas @dbitlefty.bsky.social · 25/09/2026Good shot from YES of Brendan Beck's kick-change, with his middle finger spiked on release. He's the only pitcher on the Yankees who throws one. 000
Lucas @dbitlefty.bsky.social · 25/09/2026A very simple graph of team bunt attempts and whether or not they were "good," irrespective of game state (sacrifices or bunt hits=good, misses or fouls or non-sacrifice outs=bad). Bunts are up by a lot across the league this year with the Rays (unsurprisingly) doing it more than anyone. 211
Lucas @dbitlefty.bsky.social · 24/09/2026Gerrit Cole is expanding his mix again after being a four-pitch guy (four-seam, slider, curve, change) for his dominant starts out of the all-star break. He's sprinkled in a few cutters the past month, threw 10 sinkers yesterday, and also appeared to try a sweeper (he wasn't happy with it). 110
Reposted by LucasCraig Calcaterra @craigcalcaterra.bsky.social · 21/09/2026Worth noting that there's a rule of diminishing returns when it comes to corporate stadium names. Sure, Comerica Park was also a corporate name, but it was the only name that ballpark ever had, so at least it was closely identified with Tigers baseball for more than 25 years. 17757

Lucas @dbitlefty.bsky.social · 16/09/2026Since I'm seeing Rodón velocity discourse on the other site: the 90.1 mph fastball was actually a mis-tagged sinker (which is slower on average), and as I've talked about ad nauseam, Rodón gains velo throughout the game. If he's still low-90s in the 5th or 6th inning, it's more notable. 110

Lucas @dbitlefty.bsky.social · 16/09/2026When Schmidt returns to the mound, we will not be seeing the big sweeper he debuted last year. He said that it contributed to his elbow injury, which was a refreshingly blunt admission (I believe it was @garyhphillips.bsky.social who had the initial reporting on this) 000

Lucas @dbitlefty.bsky.social · 31/08/2026He's had a decent run with the Royals and could be of use against some righty lanes (.590 career OPS against righties but .836 against lefties). A low-slot guy who can get grounders with his sinker and whiffs with his four-seam. 100
Lucas @dbitlefty.bsky.social · 31/08/2026This is one of the most ridiculous things I’ve ever seen. The game is over if the ball is caught. 020

Lucas @dbitlefty.bsky.social · 23/08/2026José Soriano has some interesting pitch grips. One-seam sinker, very narrow splitter (kind of like a "splinker"), and this breaking pitch which is a true knuckle-curve. Most pitchers spike their breaking pitches with their fingertip, but Soriano uses his whole knuckle. 010

Lucas @dbitlefty.bsky.social · 19/08/2026An aspect of yesterday’s game that I’ve already thought about plenty. After Chisholm botched the double play in the 2nd inning, Rodón perfectly epitomized “picking up your teammate.” He threw his best pitches of the night in the next two at-bats, getting two strikeouts on seven pitches. 030
Lucas @dbitlefty.bsky.social · 13/08/2026Sanchez for Wells, Caballero for Ramos. I was half-expecting one more righty bat since Gilbert is something of a reverse-splits guy with a bevy of distinct pitches for opposite-handed hitters. 120

Lucas @dbitlefty.bsky.social · 08/08/2026One of the tweaks Gerrit Cole has made since returning is to his changeup, which he's using twice as much as he was during his CYA season. In addition to adjusting the grip/orientation (see the images from Getty), he's taken ~1.5mph of velocity off it, using it as more of a timing pitch off his FB. 1132
Lucas @dbitlefty.bsky.social · 06/08/2026Checked this out last night and was blown away by how bad the Mariners' broadcast was. They openly praised Speier for retaliating (twice!), but then called it "tired" when he was ejected from the game. Can't have it both ways. 340
