Lucas @dbitlefty.bsky.social · 17hNot a clue how Chourio stayed off the 1-2 slider right before he got the hit. Incredible work from both him and Gary 100
Lucas @dbitlefty.bsky.social · 04/10/2026Incredibly random: Fernando Tatis Jr., who just moved from RF to 2B, had the first 9-4 season (only two defensive positions, RF primary and 2B secondary) in MLB this year since Mookie Betts in 2022 171
Lucas @dbitlefty.bsky.social · 04/10/2026The Wells play was peak Yankees baserunning hilarity (“drunks on the base paths” as John Sterling would’ve said) but there’s only so much you can do with one hit the entire night. Rasmussen has their number right now and it is what it is. 140
Lucas @dbitlefty.bsky.social · 03/10/2026Based on Boone's comments the past 24 hours or so, Rodón and Fried (in some order) seem likely to pitch the two Yankee Stadium games, as opposed to having Cole pitch next Thursday on regular rest. All of this seems like a reasonable deployment of the pitchers' skillsets. 020
Lucas @dbitlefty.bsky.social · 03/10/2026Interesting article with some good info/quotes about how Cole's stuff plays in the controlled environment at the Trop. Cole's fastball vertical break numbers by park this year (data from Pitch Info): 1. TB, 17.4" 2. BAL, 16.9" 3. DET, 16.8" --- 9. NYY, 16.3" --- 13. Lucas @dbitlefty.bsky.social · 02/10/2026This one from June 3rd against Jazz Chisholm is particularly incredible. Broke like a true curveball, confusing both the batter and the catcher. 000
Lucas @dbitlefty.bsky.social · 02/10/2026One of my favorite pitches in the league. We've been tagging it as a forkball at Pitch Info going back to mid-2025, when the shape began to resemble what it's been this year. 272
Lucas @dbitlefty.bsky.social · 01/10/2026Will Warren averaged 96 with both of his fastballs last night and touched 98 for the first time since Opening Day. Totally different look out of the pen and I'm curious where he'll be in the pecking order next week. 110
Lucas @dbitlefty.bsky.social · 01/10/2026It felt a little early to me, but I think the feeling around Tracy is compounded by *every single one* of his bullpen moves backfiring and the negative postgame quotes from Gray and Contreras. 000
Lucas @dbitlefty.bsky.social · 01/10/2026Red Sox looked completely overmatched, and it’s important to remember how unremarkable they were for much of the season outside of that crazy five-week stretch. 050
Lucas @dbitlefty.bsky.social · 30/09/2026What are some instances of the lack of regular season acumen? He’s been appropriately aggressive in the playoffs recently, which simply can’t be done all the time in the regular season. I know people hate him but the biggest knock now is lack of a championship, not his regular season record. 000
Lucas @dbitlefty.bsky.social · 30/09/2026The Gerrit Cole start I'm referencing led to one of my favorite quotes ever, by the way. 110
Lucas @dbitlefty.bsky.social · 30/09/2026A thing I sometimes look at: pitch count prior to final inning, as it reflects the manager's decision to send a guy back out better than raw pitch count. Schlittler's game yesterday (107 before the 7th) was second-highest in the Boone era, behind only the Gerrit Cole shutout in Houston in July 2021. 151
Lucas @dbitlefty.bsky.social · 30/09/2026The Yankees had the Luke Weaver Plan for him and it worked out. 000

Lucas @dbitlefty.bsky.social · 26/09/2026Not much recent precedent for this, if you exclude openers. The last instance I can find was Tyler Anderson for the Mariners on September 25th/28th, 2021. 010
Lucas @dbitlefty.bsky.social · 25/09/2026Good shot from YES of Brendan Beck's kick-change, with his middle finger spiked on release. He's the only pitcher on the Yankees who throws one. 000
Lucas @dbitlefty.bsky.social · 25/09/2026A very simple graph of team bunt attempts and whether or not they were "good," irrespective of game state (sacrifices or bunt hits=good, misses or fouls or non-sacrifice outs=bad). Bunts are up by a lot across the league this year with the Rays (unsurprisingly) doing it more than anyone. 211
Lucas @dbitlefty.bsky.social · 24/09/2026Gerrit Cole is expanding his mix again after being a four-pitch guy (four-seam, slider, curve, change) for his dominant starts out of the all-star break. He's sprinkled in a few cutters the past month, threw 10 sinkers yesterday, and also appeared to try a sweeper (he wasn't happy with it). 110

Sure, Comerica Park was also a corporate name, but it was the only name that ballpark ever had, so at least it was closely identified with Tigers baseball for more than 25 years. 17757

Lucas @dbitlefty.bsky.social · 16/09/2026I’m very pro-Lombard and I think he’s their guy for the long haul, but I’d be lying if I said I’m not amused by Volpe looking much better than him lately 110
Lucas @dbitlefty.bsky.social · 16/09/2026Looked like the grand slam from last week, and he certainly thought it was gone off the bat 010
Lucas @dbitlefty.bsky.social · 16/09/2026Since I'm seeing Rodón velocity discourse on the other site: the 90.1 mph fastball was actually a mis-tagged sinker (which is slower on average), and as I've talked about ad nauseam, Rodón gains velo throughout the game. If he's still low-90s in the 5th or 6th inning, it's more notable. 110

Lucas @dbitlefty.bsky.social · 16/09/2026When Schmidt returns to the mound, we will not be seeing the big sweeper he debuted last year. He said that it contributed to his elbow injury, which was a refreshingly blunt admission (I believe it was @garyhphillips.bsky.social who had the initial reporting on this) 000

Lucas @dbitlefty.bsky.social · 12/09/2026Good point. Cole only wants to work with Wells, which comes back to my real point of wondering why Sánchez is still on the roster now. 110
Lucas @dbitlefty.bsky.social · 12/09/2026Yeah. Reading the tea leaves, the pitchers don't trust Sánchez nearly as much as they trust Wells, but my impression is that everybody loves Escarra. I know there's some roster implications but I'm kind of surprised JC isn't back up now that the lineup is more balanced 010
Lucas @dbitlefty.bsky.social · 12/09/2026Austin Wells starting day-after-night AND against a lefty starter. I'm assuming he catches every NYY pitch in the playoffs (however many games that is). 300
