I’ll be working up a secure & anonymous way to send photos, stay tuned. HMU if you have experience with filtering out nonsense/harassment via a file sharing/submission service. #sincerelyjdoe

If that’s you (it’s a majority of us), sign a piece of white paper with your preferred first name, take a photo of it, post it, tag it #sincerelyjdoe or dm it to me.

I’ve said it before, and again: if the world is going to be catastrophically destroyed in some way due to AI tech, it’s gonna be for some really stupid and/or boring reason, not some masterminded nefarious plot.

Look at college graphics design program websites—usually tons of amazing student work to goggle at, of a wide variety of styles. Portland State in OR is a good place to start!

This pov boggles my mind, as the process of doing something is literally how one learns, whether the result is considered a “success” or a “failure”, thus what is the point of an education at all in the context of this AI argument? It’s absurd

This infuriated me when I read it. Not only patronizing, but also assumes tech has no connection with culture/setting of a novel, which is absurd. They’re intertwined and to “update” one would fundamentally change so much else it would inherently change the story.

Our entire economy is being artificially propped up by astrology for men: AI, crypto, sports betting, and prediction markets. It's an economy shaped entirely by male insecurity and lack of impulse control, and we'll all pay the price.

Oh, it is the sweetest gift when you get these moments of clarity. Not that there isn’t meaning in the day to day presence of a loved one with or without memory, but still. Knowing she recognized your care is a special thing.

Using Kalyn’s likeness without her consent (when there’s no way not one person in the chain didn’t know who she is) is gross tokenism. And their statement about “recently” learning about it is unacceptable. Accountability NOW RTD.

2/2 My elderly mother is vigilant on digital security, rightfully so, in part b/c of paranoia due to constant media warnings about scams, and yet when she “does everything right” and jumps through all the hoops they screw her over and deny access. Such a waste of everyone’s time.

One important thing about Iris Long is that she started with Michael Callen and Joe Sonnabend—an activist/doctor combo who had started community research that could exist outside of academia. Callen was an author of the Denver Principles—a statement of the power of people with AIDS themselves.

Found it! it was Joseph Weizenbaum, of ELIZA fame
If the triumph of a revolution is to be measured in terms of the profundity of the social revisions it entrained, then there has been no computer revolution,” Weizenbaum argues in Computer Power and Human Reason. Rather than dismantling the old order, computers arrived in time “to entrench and stabilize social and political structures that otherwise might have been either radically renovated or allowed to totter under the demands that were sure to be made on them. The computer, then, was used to conserve America’s social and political institutions.”

Eventually, you’ll be able to walk around an installation of the pieces and relate the scale of your body to the scale of the stitches. We’re getting to a point where and installation can start to evoke a sense of scale. For now, we do so through community stitching sessions, so folks can…

YUP. And the trauma from the height of COVID pushed folks from these jobs, coupled with inadequate pay, higher overhead, and decreased govt funding. It’s a cluster, and clear reasoning for why care should NOT be for-profit.

And if your loved one has a simple medical device like a catheter it may just disqualify them from assisted living entirely. None of our elder “care” systems make any logical sense, let alone provide support for dignified living and decision making. Seamless transition? A fantasy.

Largest demographic at the moment—developers are pausing/stopping building aging care facilities because we’re hitting “peak” numbers about now. Since it will go down as this gen dies, they won’t invest in more infrastructure now b/c it won’t be used for long. Ofc, no alt options in the meantime. 🙄

He WILL do anything and everything because he believes the rules never apply to him, thus are irrelevant. He cannot be expected to follow any law, judicial order or rule at all, and we must hold him accountable, ignore his outbursts, and believe his outrageous words as he tells on himself.
