I am eternally confused about how Chrome became The Browser so rapidly. Was a button to install it just being *visible* on google dot com really that effective? IE sucked but everyone who didn't care was fine with it because the extra click to get something better was too much to ask for

It is objectively a good thing that just anyone can just have a website up and running in a few minutes but somehow that's resulted in a landscape where we can...sell forms? It's wild. I don't know what the solution is

This is the sort of thing that sucks because, like, I can probably pull a bunch of alternatives out but they are self-hosted or literally just using the <form> tag in HTML. Modern web builders like wix make it hard to do easy things without vendors like that and it's part of why the web Just Sucks

Important to note that the DDG browser *is* Chrome, it just has a different logo and different default search experience (and this is okay because of the F/OSS development model). Just use Firefox - Mozilla are "AI" pilled too but it's the best we can do until the bubble pops.

...blimey that's a lot of words on "AI" sniff tests. Oh boy does this sorry excuse for a technology make simple things like checking out someone's website tiring -.-

(but in your case I know better, at least)

And - sorry to be a little critical - but if I clicked on the Fillout logo and the first thing I saw on their website was that they offer "AI" form builders. To me it's often a sign that a website owner is okay with "AI" if they use "AI"-powered vendors like that

Boilerplates like that are good but it's easy to drift into "doth protest too much" territory. I don't think you do here though. I tend to look at elements of a website for telltale signs (noticed how rounded corners and muted colour palettes are suddenly in vogue on websites recently?)

Full of despair today. Massive lay offs in social sciences and humanities across the country, Burnham puts out a video saying 'AI can write an essay', and my university is busy integrating co-pilot into all staff and student computers. We are being told we're defunct and there's no resistance.

AI doesn't illustrate reality, while I'm sure this is a real problem fake images don't help. You show this to someone less well meaning and you just get "Well that's not a real image" (and then of course it helps build datacentre demand every time someone does a prompt, so unhelpful all around)

Turns out this i.AI thing is a civil service LLM slop factory (and the phone is likely provided by them I guess). I love that we have one of those, the UK is so cold and miserable it's good that we have the civil service pumping out extra heat for them over there.

DDG thinks AI is super cool and is only using the public souring on AI as an advertisement to draw more traffic away from a competitor. They proved that 93% of their perspective audience hates AI search but it's enabled by default in their core product and is used to upsell their premium services.

Cool that AI Data Centres are among the list of targets for this protest - but it hurts my soul that FightBackNow is hosted on Civic Deeds, an "AI-powered" platform. What's the right idiom here? We don't want cake but I guess we'll eat it anyway?
