I definitely did so! It is emotional to leave one's place of work after more than 15 years, after having invested so much of myself into it.

On Tuesday @ceilteachomn.bsky.social said a proper farewell to @davidstifter.bsky.social, who has taken up a senior professorship @scs-dias.bsky.social: a lovely, warm speech from @dhaydenceltic.bsky.social, gifts including a print by Maura McDonnell, & some parting words of wisdom from David 🥂
Prof. David Stifter smiles while holding a framed print of the spire on the Maynooth University South Campus by artist Maura McDonnell. Prof. Deborah Hayden gives a speech. Some graduate students are visible in the background.

I am not sure about "nos" myself, so I was just wondering if you had good arguments to treat it as an inherited word. As for geminate -tt-, I suspect it will be hard to find many good exmaples that go back to PC, except across morphemic boundaries in compounds.

You are deriving W nos "night" etc. directly from PC. I was thinking about this yesterday because it is widely assumed that this is simply a loan from Lat. nox. "Cat", in any case, is probably a post-PC loan from a "Wanderwort".

Historical contact linguistics have a long tradition in the comparative linguistic science. As past human landscapes become increasingly illuminated through new methods and data from ancient genetics and archaeology, it is time to integrate the wealth of information from historical linguistics in a consistent manner. The book introduces the science of historical contact linguistics through the works of a new generation of scholars with rich perspectives from across the world. Through the explora

Thank you very much. I take your point, there is probably a real person doing this, but the whole approach still seems to be very much AI. Which doesn't make it better. A "human" approach to presenting this matter could have been to interview one of the scholars who wrote about this topic.

I've heard people make claims that AI would lead to a new Renaissance, but I didn't imagine it'd happen like this:
Screenshot of a Tweet from Pope Leo XIV. It reads:

"In this era of artificial intelligence, it is becoming urgen to distinguish human art from what machines produce. There is an ontological difference, even before an aesthetic one, between art and what a machine can generate through statistical calculation based on millions of images created by others. Algorithms lack the spark of humanity. For this reason, the Church wishes to renew an alliance with artists and cultural institutions to safeguard our humanity."
