I have a new story out in issue sixty-nine of Uncanny magazine @uncannymagazine.bsky.social !! “Permanent Press” is about bubbles, cosmic counterparts, hard choices, and a mysterious laundromat! You can read it here! www.uncannymagazine.com/article/perm...

Permanent Press - Uncanny Magazine
LA  NDRY or L  UNDRY. Those were the two choices. You never knew which one you were gonna get. The letters took turns to be fickle, blinking and spluttering in a game of chance. Mr. Lee, the laundry-mat owner, was stingy with the upkeep. He let his storefront waver, caught between two versions of itself. […]

Spent Saturday evening with "The Loaf in the Woods" by @davidmarinowrites.bsky.social in @bcsmagazine.bsky.social. Made me love bread even more than before (a tough task) and love ants at all (a tougher one). Went where I didn't expect it to, which, it turns out, is exactly where I wanted to go.

My favorite of the issue might be David Marino's "Memories of the MindMine," tho, which finds a man named Rat joining the mining of God's head in order to look for memories about the parents he never knew. An orphan, his life has been grim and hard, and he yearns for belonging and acceptance

And slowly he comes to see that he can do something about what's going on. And that the actions and kindness of even one person can make a huge difference in a world primarily run through fear and self interest. It's another great story!

David Marino's "The Loaf in the Woods" is also great, following Olaf on a trading shortcut through a haunted wood, with the shunned spirits who seem only to want someone to listen to them, to care, to help. Though Olaf has his reasons to resist, he also has his reasons to resonate with their plight

Head-and-shoulders color photo of author David Marino, a fair-skinned man with dark, curly/wavy hair cut short. He wears a charcoal-gray button-down with an ikat pattern in white. He stands in a sunny outdoor location of tree-lined paths—a park, perhaps?—with his body almost in profile and his face in three-quarters view. He regards the camera with large, dark eyes and a shy-looking smile.Color photo portrait of author Kristina Ten, a fair-skinned and lightly freckled woman with curly hair worn long and without bangs. She wears dark blue jeans, a darker blue button-down, two slim gold necklaces, and a gold nose ring. She sits under a dramatically branching conifer that casts dappled shadows, but the sun is strong enough to shine through her hair and show that it’s a bright auburn color. Resting her elbows on her knees, her hands relaxed in front of her, she sits squared off to the camera with her head turned to three-quarters view. She gives the camera a mischievous, knowing smile.
