This is a heartwarming story. I passed through Brindisi as a college student at that time and remember that there were a LOT of Albanians at the train station. I didn’t know about the grassroots humanitarian response of the city, great leadership and generosity.

The passing of Paul Newman (2008), Sean Connery (2020), Sidney Poitier (2022), and now Robert Redford (2025) signals the slow disappearance of a certain type of 20th century figure: men who embodied classic style in a way that reflected their taste, rather than a professional stylist.

In middle school I wrote a paper about Hubble that earned me a trip to Huntsville to visit the Space Center. This was years before it finally launched. I’ve always been fond of that space telescope!

Quirky shows I have enjoyed recently: Mickey 17 (Robert Pattinson) and The Bondsman (Kevin Bacon). In case you need a distraction!

I had a hard time finding women physicists here. So I made a starter pack for #female and #under-represended #minorities in #physics, in short #FURMIP. Please spread the word and let me know if you would like to be added. go.bsky.app/2JeYsDz

As a former early 90s indie book store associate (hello Booksellers of Cleveland Heights!) I've not loved B&N but I'm intrigued with the new CEO focusing them on books and people who read them (!) and stores trying localized tactics on a shoestring, branding be damned. Hope it works out.
