This has always been the case. The issue I see is that in the 2000s we had heavy consolidation around a few big publishers, who convinced people they had to play all (and only) their AAAs. RPGs were BioWare & Bethesda, nothing else. This is why people think they could "play all games" at one point

People desperately need GTA VI to be the biggest game ever because they have nothing to say about what's actually been popular in the last decade or so. They can't process that they're a niche now, they must be the standard.

This is a great example of why you should disable Steam's dumb language filters. Most people are only seeing a random visual novel they never heard about with a couple of reviews. It has over 10,000 reviews. These filters do nothing except lock you in inside a bubble.

I know it's a point of some debate, but this isn't a remaster. It's a whole dang remake with new core gameplay mechanics and features. It has the SPIRIT of a PS2 game, but it's rebuilt to modern spec.
