Twenty years ago, on October 7, 2006, Anna Politkovskaya was murdered by Putin’s henchmen. She had warned about the true nature of the russian regime and urged that it not be allowed to continue until it was too late. Western leaders chose to listen to the appeasers—or succumbed to corruption.

Miyamura was finally released on Aug. 20, 1953, during a prisoner exchange. He was afraid he would face a court-martial for losing position, but he immediately learned of his Medal of Honor. It was officially presented to him by President Dwight D. Eisenhower at the White House on Oct. 27, 1953. /8
President Dwight D. Eisenhower (left) shakes hands with Hiroshi Miyamura at the White House on Oct. 27, 1953, after presenting him with the Medal of Honor. Miyamura’s family, including his father, attended the presentation. Miyamura was only the second Japanese-American recipient in U.S. history. The Medal of Honor citation credits Miyamura with conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity above and beyond the call of duty, describing how he engaged in hand-to-hand combat, tended to the wounded, and manned a machine gun under heavy fire to cover his men’s withdrawal. When last seen, he was fighting ferociously against an overwhelming number of enemy soldiers, reflecting the utmost glory on himself and on the military service. The full text of the citation is available here: https://www.valortrail.org/stories/hiroshi-hershey-miyamura

I LOVE how @propublica.org dealt with official comment here, editorially and stylistically.
The Trump administration says none of this is happening.

"DHS is NOT arresting U.S. citizens by mistake." "There are no 'indiscriminate' stops." Allegations of "racial profiling are disgusting, reckless and categorically FALSE." "The pattern is NOT of law enforcement using force." "ICE does not zip tie or restrain children."

But that is precisely what is happening, and at a far larger scale than previously reported.

Well Tom, it’s not what you say now - it’s kinda easy looking at a house engulfed in flame and saying “Yep, that’s a fire.” But back in the Bush years? When smoke was coming out and others started saying, “There’s gonna be a fire here” That woulda been useful. Harder. But useful.
