Trump tomato tariffs could spell the end of free chips, salsa at restaurants
The 17% tariff on Mexican tomato imports, combined with bad weather in Florida and Mexico, has caused the price of salsa ingredients to spike in recent months.

The European Commission has rolled out an alternative to Microsoft Teams.
But officials using it aren't impressed, with one describing the tool as "absolute shit."

The one that really infuriates me is the “we take security so seriously that we’re not going to let you paste into the password field.” Yes, don’t let people use a password manager easily. That’ll definitely make things more secure

Today in 1983 in Moscow, just past midnight, 44 year-old Lt. Col. Stanislav Petrov’s calm decision that a satellite warning of the launch of 5 US Minuteman ICBMs was a false alarm—based on “a funny feeling in my gut”—may have averted a catastrophic nuclear war. www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/inatl...
An official color photograph of Lt. Col. Stanislav Petrov posing in his uniform around the time of this incident.A screenshot of the linked February 10, 1999, Washington Post article on page A19 headlined, “‘I Had A Funny Feeling In My Gut; Soviet Officer Faced Nuclear Armageddon.” The article also includes a large graphic title "A Crumbling Warning System," showing problems with Russia's early-warning satellites and ground-based radars. The continuation of a front page article headlined, "Dearth of Satellites Fogs Russian System," appears next to the article about Petrov.

I very much want to read this one. Pope Leo summoned Gareth Gore to the Vatican awhile back for a closed-door meeting about which Gore - who has desperately tried to get multiple popes to give a fuck about his reporting - said little except that he left feeling good about where they left things 👀

Next book is Opus by Gareth Gore. When the Pope calls a book a “rigorous piece of work” and you’re a lapsed Catholic that’s married to a Catholic who’s very frustrated with the church and loves your recaps of @clairewillett.bsky.social threads, well, you put your name on the waitlist

If knowing a big plot point makes a book, show or movie irrelevant then they weren’t that good to begin with. There’s lots of good reasons to avoid the internet but spoilers isn’t one of them. Rosebud is a sled. Darth Vader is Luke’s dad. Avatar is anime. You’re free.

We make way too big a deal about spoilers. They don’t matter. I read 800 pages of spoilers for books 4 - 6 and I don’t care. I’m still going to go back and read them because the books are good. The stories are interesting.
