Next book is Opus by Gareth Gore. When the Pope calls a book a “rigorous piece of work” and you’re a lapsed Catholic that’s married to a Catholic who’s very frustrated with the church and loves your recaps of @clairewillett.bsky.social threads, well, you put your name on the waitlist

My wife is good about letting our neighbors take clippings from the garden and has built up quite a little fan club. Today a neighbor dropped off some eggs from their chickens and (I think?) quails. I ask in all seriousness: what should I do with the quail eggs?
An egg carton with six eggs. Three are brown chicken eggs and three are smaller dark grey eggs with brown spots

Next up is This Inevitable Ruin, another Dungeon Crawler Carl. Each book is a floor of the dungeon and @mattdinniman.bsky.social makes a bold artistic choice by flashing forward from the third floor to the ninth. It’s definitely that and not that I screwed up which book to reserve at the library
The book This Inevitable Ruin by Matt Dinniman. It’s actually the ninth book in the series, not the fourth. How I managed to screw this up is beyond me. Anyway, time to put my “spoilers don’t matter” claims to the test

Next book is @scalzi.com’s Lock In. It takes place after a global pandemic from a flu like illness which can cause long term neurological damage. Also everyone is trying to move on and pretend it never happened. It came out in 2014 so it ruins the “Novel of the near future” tagline for everyone else

From the Wikipedia description: Hypothetical pattern of damage sustained by an aircraft that returned from combat. Reinforcing aircraft solely in these areas would overlook the question of where non-surviving planes were fatally hit.

Next up is The Ghosts of Iron Mountain by @philtinline.bsky.social and I’m going in blind. It was recommended by someone here on Bluesky and it just popped up available at my library. Personally I don’t see how a paper shredding company gets a whole book but y’all haven’t steered me wrong yet

My next read was kind of inevitable. I’ve got a good reading habit going which means I’m always on the lookout for books I haven’t read, I’m on Bluesky and I follow @rincewind.run. “Well? Are you going to read the Discworld books or not?” was bound to come up at some point

You can probably find this at your local Goodwill!
A book titled “The Metaverse And How It Will Revolutionize Everything” by Matthew BallThe back of the Metaverse book with embarrassing quotes from Reed Hastings, Tim Sweeney, Taylor Lorenz and Kenichiro Yoshida. It reads as follows:

From the leading theorist of the Metaverse comes the definitive account of the next internet: what the Metaverse is, what it will take to build it, and what it means for all of us.

"Metaverse' is the new buzzword, but few can define it. Matthew Ball's comprehensive treatise lays out the potential and-just as importantly-the challenges in realizing the Metaverse and how it fits into the technological evolution from personal computing to the internet to mobile computing. This book helps separate fact from fiction, hype from reality, and should be foundational reading for anyone who wants to understand the possibilities of the Metaverse." -REED HASTINGS,
co-founder and co-CEO of Netflix

"Matthew Ball's essays have defined, analyzed, and inspired the Metaverse for years.
His book is an approachable and essential guide to the strategic, technical, and philosophical foundations of this new medium, and highlights the opportunity to build an open system bringing opportunity for all—and avoiding the trap of another Big Tech walled garden." -TIM SWEENEY, founder and CEO of Epic Games

"For years, Matthew Ball's massively influential essays on the Metaverse have popularized the concept and inspired many founders and leaders to begin building it. In this book, he distills his knowledge into an authoritative guide for everyone the Metaverse will touch —which is to say, all of us."
-TAYLOR LORENZ,
tech columnist at the Washington Post

"A thought-provoking look at the evolving intersection of technology, society, human nature, and creativity. Matthew Ball's enlightening guide is a must-read for every creator and company that is embarking on their journey to the new frontier that is the Metaverse. A new world shaped by individuals and driven by incredible social experiences has just begun."
-KENICHIRO YOSHIDA, CEO of Sony
