The suit was one of two filed last month by the Sturgeon Lake Cree Nation, whose traditional territory encompasses the proposed project. In the lawsuit, the nation asks the court to quash the decision and force Alberta to require an environmental impact assessment for Wonder Valley. The province's decision to exempt the project from an environmental assessment was unreasonable because it lacked any of the analysis required by provincial laws, the nation alleged in legal filings.
