I’m fairly certain one of the Dalek plungers has a Beano-style sticking plaster on it. It’s great.

There’s so much fun in that image. Looks like one of the Dalek’s plungers has a sticking plaster on it. Baby Dalek in the background. Going to assume Missy on that asteroid.

Spellbound Dizzy was tremendous. But Prince Of The Yolkfolk is the perfect introduction. And obviously only play the Speccy versions. The 16-bit versions of Dizzy always feel wrong.

The young ones are all trying to show how mature they are and sapping the fun out. The older ones are TERFy gits. The nicer ones aren’t getting any screen time. I feel for Twinks, who appears to be excellent and is being actively bullied.

I was browsing back copies of THE STAGE when I found this article about Red Dwarf in the 14 November 1991 issue. The photo of Rob Grant and Doug Naylor reimagined as Zaphod Beeblebrox caught my eye. #RedDwarf
WRITE ATTITUDE
By SUZAN LEAVY
NOW in its fifth series, Red Dwarf is BBC 2's longest-running sitcom and probably the channel's most successful with the last series being watched by 4.8 million viewers.
Rob Grant and Doug Naylor, creators and writers of Red Dwarf, established Grant and Naylor Productions in 1990 and became executive producers of the show.
The company also has a development deal with franchise winner Carlton Television for comedy, recently appointed Kathleen Hutchinson as head of development and is currently discussing new projects with other comedy writers for 1992.
It sounds like the sort of success story most young writers can only dream of. Grant and Naylor have been friends since the age of nine. Born and bred in Manchester, both attended Liverpool University to study psychology and both were thrown out after spending their second year, not on psychology, but writing their first sitcom together.
Their first script was rejected by the BBC but the fact that someone there said that the dialogue flowed quite smoothly convinced them that writing was the right career move.
Writing stints for Radio Manchester were followed by their first television work on A Kick Up The Eighties. Via Three of a Kind and Carrott's Lib, they went to Spitting Image as script editors and senior writers. After the first series, the duo created the pilot for Red Dwarf but it took producers Paul Jackson and John Lloyd three years to get it onto the screen through BBC North West.
So, Grant says "the only advice I can offer new writers is to be prepared to wait a long time. Keep on writing and generally good work will sur- face.
Grant explained that, despite their success, the pair still had to face the fact that on many television productions, writers tend not to be listened
to.
It is a situation which was quickly rectified once they became producers on Red Dwarf even though this meant extra work in pre-production and post-production.
"We became producers on the third series bec…

This whole witch narrative is bizarre. Have people forgotten about pagans and all that? Bloody hell, it used to be common for every other kooky woman to say she was a witch. Maybe she was. Tsk. What a weirdly incurious bunch this lot are. #bbuk

If I've learned 1 thing about politics in my lifetime, it's that there are no political parties out there that don't have problematical areas of policy at some point in time. It's a sad truism, but politics really is about picking the "least worst" in almost every situation.

Ah, 4 October! Happy fifth birthday to this marvellous thing…
Tom Hollander, A Life in the Day: I wake up generally at 3 or 4am. Not because I'm like Margaret Thatcher, but because I need to pee. I pee in the darkness using my phone screen to illuminate the target, then often take half a sleeping pill ... Sometime between 6 and 8 I wake again, turn up the Today programme gently. If my girlfriend is there we hold each other in different positions. If she isn't I wrap my arms around a pillow and continue listening to the bad news. Whoever gets up first will go downstairs and start baking porridge. ... It takes about 40 minutes to cook and we eat it in such large quantities with olive oil and salt that we negate any nutritional benefits. But we enjoy it. And while it's cooking it gives us time to look at our phones. Sometimes in this waiting period I try to do three slow sun salutations to stretch myself out, but often I don't. I brew the first of many coffees. ... Owing to forces beyond my control, life has not been as busy as it used to be. … I look at myself in the mirror and try to see what others see. Examine my bald patch, weigh myself and pull my stomach in. Then let it out. Then pull it in again. If I'm feeling positive I might get dressed at this point and go for my second coffee on the street below. I've lived in the same flat for 20 years and one of the rewards for this loyalty is that I know all the shopkeepers and stallholders on the street, for whom I have become like a piece of the old furniture they sell. Hello Glen, hello Kris, Ghino! … Then take it home and leave it on the sideboard with any post that has arrived from my stalker. Then I might call my agent. "Isn't she? No, no, nothing important... just checking in..." Soon it's time for my midmorning nap. Followed by the preparation of lunch, which I start at 12.15pm. … If it's sunny I might go for a cycle ride down the canal, ifit's raining I might masturbate and doze, or speculate on the extraordinary injustice of Philip Green's knighthood…

When I was a student, the water in the halls frequently ran brown. So I’d only drink from big 2l bottles of “table water” from Sainsbury’s. Which were about 20p. And clearly just tap water.

Dan @danofthewibble.bsky.social · 04/10/2026
Dasani’s problem was bad marketing. Bottling tap water has always been a thing, but they actively tried to hide and disguise what they were doing. And then it turned out it was tainted as well. A big mess.

Yup. There was lots of good in it. And other things clearly fucked up by production changes. And anyone surprised that he couldn’t do the finales clearly entirely forgot his previous run was criticised for finales not being any good and relying too much on Deus ex machina.

Caffe Lucca in Nova Scotia with a genius analogue pisstake of an AI advert, with everything written on cardboard in marker pen, and several staff members' hands coming in with cups from out of the frame.
