They will look at it, and they will see straight through it, with their clear, cold, beady little eyes, and they will put it down, and they will go away. Kids will devour vast amounts of garbage (and it is good for them) but they are not like adults: they have not yet learned to eat plastic.

I haven't seen nearly enough discussion of this incredible, very in-depth piece of reporting on Palantir. We tend to talk about the company as if they're some all-powerful panopticon, but the reality is they're a sub-par data integration middleware company with better branding and lobbying.

Really didn't vibe with Marathon over the free week. What it boiled down to was I just didn't feel the extraction fantasy. The setting felt kinda incoherent to me, loot was confusing and traversal didn't feel good. Even successful runs didn't feel very satisfying.

Because the truth is, tech doesn't have an image problem. It doesn't have a message problem. It has an intention problem. What's wrong with the axe murderer who broke into my house is not that he hasn't successfully persuaded me to buy into his narrative. What's wrong is that he's trying to kill me with an axe. Similarly, when you launch a product that's designed to put millions of people out of work, block access to sources of verifiable truth, replace human creativity with slop, and lower the barriers to every sort of atrocity, the problem isn't that you haven't told the public a good story about those things. The problem is that you are trying to do them.

Mina The Hollower demo left me cold in the same way Hollow Knight did, because they promise the joy of exploration and a quirky world and then go 'git gud if you wanna see any of it scrub' without giving me many options of how to get gud. I don't have the patience for them or the design decisions.

I know I'm a little late to the party, but I'm just finishing off FF7:Rebirth. I love the game parts but MY GOD is the story absolute bobbins. The original was kind of a tone poem really which the lo-fi visuals and short-ish runtime could just about support but it's stretched past thin here.

@coldbloodinc.studio Played the demo last night and the vibes are IMPECCABLE. Writing was great too. If I may give some unsolicited feedback, the combat felt a bit fiddly and punishing, especially the checkpointing which I feel could be more generous so I don't have to redo so much on dying.

Last two games I tried had awful intros, which is *still* par for the course. In the era of gamespass and whatnot where there's less sunk cost fallacy than ever, it's arguably even more important an issue than just that of good design, and 9/10 games still get it heinously wrong.
