Been messing around with new crochet stitches for Christmas presents and dang y'all, the rice stitch is lovely. I'm totally enchanted by the way it looks!

A work in progress crochet blanket. It's done in rice stitch, which looks like a fancy weave but it's actually super simple to do. The yarn is Caron blossom cupcakes in the color blooming good. It's mostly pastel green, but with bits of pastel purple, pink, and blue.

Birthday hike goal accomplished! We wandered Dishman Hills, got lost, found a cool house, got more lost, and overall had a great time. Proved to myself, with the right boots and a hiking stick for balance, I can handle a mile of up and down hiking trails. Looking forward to more adventures 🥰

Nephew asked for chocolate donuts for my birthday hike tomorrow. Five different recipes later and I settled on a good donut/glaze combo. Except I forgot to sift the powdered sugar so there's clumps in the glaze. It's always something 😅

Spokane: if you need car repairs, try LMK Auto! They came to my house when the tire pressure light came on. Filled the tires, made friends with Coco, and took some time to throw the ball for her. Me and Coco both recommend them. 💜

I'm digging lava rocks out of the abandoned beds to use in the Succulent Corner and I thought, no prob, just give them a quick soak, scoop out the floating weeds, good to go. Except, funny story, they float right along with the weeds 😅 How do I clean them? Is it even possible?

A decade ago I was so sick I had strategic places to sit around the house in case I started to pass out. Two years ago I tore an ankle tendon and was getting ready for surgery. Today me and the dogs did a mile and a half meander around the neighborhood. Actually pretty proud of myself 😊

What We Saw On Our Walk Today: A rooster chased us down the block. We cut through the alley and looped around to avoid him, but he was waiting on the other side. He chased us another half block. Roosters are proof the devil is real* 😅 (* kidding. Sort of.)

Been in armadillo mode, but a long river walk helped.

Finally got all the concrete chunks over from the neighbor's alley. Started working on the Succulent Corner for real. Cardboard and paper bags for weed suppression. It'll look cool when it's done, hopefully.

Just way too many broken pieces of concrete that rangein size from a few inches to over a foot in length.

The cornerof the yard where I'm building up a kind of terrace made from the busted concrete. There are paper bags and cardboard to block weeds. There's a sad little rosebush hanging out in the corner too.

On this, a Bad Day, my niece made it brighter by bringing me boxes of goodies. Fruits, veggies, herbs. I was able to distract myself with hanging fresh rosemary to dry, making a veggie stir fry and cucumber salad with her, and nibbling on the GIANT brick of toffee peanut brittle she brought home 😅

Earlier on our walk Coco was pulling at the leash, wildly eager to say hi to a stray cat. When Coco saw the injured bird she approached* slowly and gently. Proof Coco is the perfect, sweetest, most lovingest dog ever. (*I had dropped the leashes while I tried to figure out what to do.)

(Cw: wild animal death) Found an injured juvenile crow on our walk. My only bird experience is chickens, so I took off my shirt and wrapped it gently around the crow so I could carry it home and call a wildlife rescue. It died in my arms. Something something bringing up lots of past trauma etc
