Our task-switching paper is now out at Current Biology! www.cell.com/current-biol... We find that that our brains reset to a task-neutral state between trials, providing flexibility when the upcoming task is uncertain. RNNs also learn this strategy, but only when trained to switch tasks.

A new paper shows that reward spreads across multiple links in memory and selectively preserves the structure of related items. In other words: reward doesn't just travel through memory, it shapes it to guide what you choose next.

A huge milestone for the NANo Lab @sfu.ca - our first pre-print is now out in the wild! 🥳 Driven by rising star Sean Kriwokon, we find that changes in energetically-expensive brain signaling in folks with AD may be due to energetic limitations imposed by mitochondrial dysfunction 📃🔗👇
Brain maps on the left show significant negative relationships between aperiodic-corrected alpha rhythmic activity and ATP-linked mitochondrial respiration, with strongest effects in posterior parieto-occipital regions. A scatterplot on the right shows participant-level data for this effect in the left calcarine region, with a best-fit line and inferential statistics overlaid.

How does the brain build a memory? A common assumption is that the neurons activated during an experience collectively form the memory engram. In our new Nature Neuroscience paper (finally out!), we show that this is not the case. www.nature.com/articles/s41...
