Just watched an interview of a well-known U of C economist praising a right-wing leader of a South American country, deregulation, etc. It's deja vu all over again... (He also thinks the real problem with Trump is that he may pave the way for AOC and Dem Socialists...) I am not making this up.

Finally, honest local officials win against data center oligarchs. In Louisiana, of all places! We got Fulton to bump up our first 3 hyperscalers from $200M to $5B. Worth $85M/yr in property tax revenue, if the county makes it stick. It's a big deal. Wish Greens & Progs fought for this. #GApol

Chicago just experienced the fewest amount of September homicides since 2010. We are going to continue investing in programs that prevent crime and save lives until we drive that number down to zero.

Photo credit: Michael Izquierdo / WTTW News)2. WTTW article text: Through the first three quarters of 2026, Chicago is on pace for fewer homicides than it recorded in 2025, a year that closed with the city’s fewest recorded killings in 60 years.

According to new data from the Chicago Police Department, there have been 321 homicides throughout the city through the end of September, a 3% decline over the same time last year and a 29% decline over that period in 2024.3. WTTW article text: That comes after Chicago saw 31 homicides during the month of September — 14 fewer than the same month last year. That’s also the fewest homicides in any September dating back to 2010, according to CPD records.

The total number of shootings (136) and shooting victims (165) last month were also down compared to September 2025, police said.4. wttw article text: Through the end of September, Chicago has recorded a 4% decline in total shootings and a 2% drop in the number of shooting victims compared to 2025, a year that marked a historic low for violence in the city.

According to the CPD, carjackings are down 26% this year, while robberies (down 21%) and burglaries (down 10%) have also seen declines.

Violent crime on the CTA’s train and bus lines is down 32% this year, while property crime has decreased by 26%, according to CPD data.

Jay Bhattacharya discussing his buddy Peter Theil.
Jay Bhattacharya: Peter and I were friends, I mean, I think I met him when I was 19. He was, you know, he founded The Stanford Review. He was my dorm. He was poor then, so at one point, I think Ilent him pizza money. I think he still owes me. Peter, if you're listening, you don't have to pay me back, I forgive the debt.
Jon Hartley: Gotta think about how much interest there could be there, you know, or what the return is on that.
Jay Bhattacharya: No, we were friends, we are friends now still. But he, but yeah, I mean, he, I think has been the, probably the most prominent person, articulating this idea about stagnation. scientific stagnation, and decrying it, calling for changes in how we think about science so that we can get more real advances. And I think he's right. I think... but I don't think the problem is any lack of opportunities in science. I think the ideas are there. We just need to set the incentives for people to find them.

A U.S. president is running an overtly political camaign advertisement, right before midterm elections, paid for by the U.S. government.
