Now that (I think) it's official, I'm really happy to announce that I will be starting as a CNRS (@cnrsbiologie.bsky.social) researcher at the Institute for Cognitive Sciences in Lyon at the end of the year 🎉. I'll continue working on how networks & (in)equalities emerge across animal societies!

Overall, dominance is a precarious strategy that's dependent on social context: it can lead to ostracism and levelling behaviours by a many community members, but such costs may be offset if dominant individuals use selective cooperation to maintain good standing among a sub-group of the community.

Prestige was associated with positive social and economic outcomes, but results related to dominance were complicated! Dominant individuals received some smaller social and economic benefits. At the same time, they were more feared and distrusted, and more likely to be exploited and punished.
