Quick story. My op-ed on how corporations that kept their DEI programs performed just as well financially was accepted & factchecked at TIME Magazine. Just needed "pro forma review by the legal department." Suddenly the piece is spiked Why? Benioff owns TIME and wants to ingratiate himself to Trump

Came back bc Prof. Ha's work was close to mine--his new project was on blackness and Indian Ocean Islam. I had a series of negative interactions with him after Oct. 7, read the room, and quietly added him to my blocklist, non-reviewers list, and refused requests to give feedback on his writing...

The government *still* isn’t tracking how often immigration agents detain U.S. citizens. We are. 500+ Americans have been handcuffed, held at gunpoint or held against their will in Trump’s second term. Our tally is almost certainly an undercount. THREAD (content warning: violence) ⬇️

🏺 Just have to share the incredible beauty not only of ancient archives, but of scholarly work in translating & recording them, including olds-kool hand-drawn illustrations. Here's a tablet from Tell al-Rimah, ancient Qattara, around 1800 BCE, recording agricultural produce. From Dalley 1976
Screenshot of digitized double page spread from Dalley 1976 publication on Tell al-Rimah tablets. It shows both sides of a fragmented but large clay tablet, upon which many columns of cuneiform writing are seen. The drawing of the tablet itself is in black and white with shading, and is exquisite.

Both are city vehicles, but... Only one demands minimal space, doesn't threaten lives, and causes zero wear on our roads. Yet the cargo bike has to beg for every single scrap of safe infrastructure, while the massive SUV is just handed the entire city by default.
