Iterative design! It def. helped and I think the review bot both makes less errors and is more helpful after claude "hardened" it a bit. Am I tempting fate? Will these AI tools conspire against me? Maybe!

Then you can have claude create the detailed tool info and descriptors. But to harden this and improve the tool you can have claude "act as a student" and live test the magicschool bot with questions and requests. Claude will test the bot and will improve it's tool info based on those tests.

One small hack that might be useful. If you have access to magicschool (or some other student facing AI tool) and want to give them (fully optional) review bots for them to get review for tests etc, and you have claude pro (for educators it's free this year!).

Linus Torvalds on LLM usage (in the Linux kernel project). TL;DR: it is useful so let' use it where it helps and let's not make this a religious question.

No shit, I have been laughing at this image for the past 5 minutes. Actual tears streaming down my face. Sure man, put one of these in my kid's classroom. See how that goes.

Students aren't just using AI to cheat; they're using it to unblock themselves, debug, and explain concepts when they're stuck. The future of teaching is helping them use it as a learning tool, not just an answer machine. Does this all actually lead to better learning??? NO IDEA.

"I used it to tell me where the error was and what caused it, then I would fix it myself—no copy & paste ever." Students stressed code ownership: "Using AI for debugging made sense because having it explain errors is easy and helps you learn."

In AP Computer Science Principles, AI adoption was much higher: ~85% of students used it. Average helpfulness: 4.13/5. How they used it: • ~85% Explaining concepts • ~70% Studying / test prep • ~50% Debugging code And ~80% said they understood the code the AI helped debug.

"AI can answer questions quickly and conveniently when doing homework at home and students aren't able to ask their teacher." But they warned about passive learning: "I can see AI being helpful, but it's too much of a temptation to just get the right answer."

In College Precalculus, ~55% of students used AI. Average helpfulness: 4.0/5. How they used it: • ~90% Explaining concepts • ~65% Checking homework answers • ~35% Studying for tests It served as a key "at-home TA" when stuck on tough DeltaMath homework.

How are high school students using Generative AI? I analyzed anonymous feedback from my Precalculus and AP Computer Science classes this year. Here’s what I found about how students are integrating AI tools into their learning workflows:

Right now, I'm 80% pessimistic about the impact LLMs will have on CS education, and 20% optimistic that maybe, just maybe, we’ll figure out a way to figure it out and the kids will learn CS.

What info are apps taking in? How do we, as the humans behind the prompt, take responsibility for that data? The shift from "syntax writer" to "system overseer" is massive, and our educational frameworks aren't ready.

Dan Anderson @dandersod.recursiveprocess.com · 12/06/2026
Is the question now: how do we teach the foundations? Students still need to understand how data structures work, what databases can do, and where the dangers lie. Even if we aren't writing lines of code, we are still the architects.

More and more I think we're at a crossroads with teaching CS and AI. Working with agentic AI lately, I’ve noticed I barely touch code anymore. But knowing the mechanics of how the program works in the background? Irreplaceable.
