It's sentences like these that show that @fawnnguyen.substack.com is (was 😭) a true teacher, not some saccharine social media personality. substack.com/home/post/p-...

Really satisfying when students get your jokes and repeat them a week later on the assessment...

lolz. doesn't need to be any type of curve but having the function output include decimals is a real choice.

Pretend you're me and one of your classes is an AIS Algebra class and you're trying to get a kid who failed three times to pass this stinking exam and this is the question that you're working on getting them to answer correctly.

I'm trying to be surprised but the software is rotten to the core at launch. I tried to click on the TI Connect (TRADEMARK) Evo on Microsoft Edge, the default browser on Microsoft Windows (which is running on Chromium) and I get and error.

Simply wild to me that you'd advertise a 156Mhz processor and 3.5MB of memory as a *good* thing. In 2026. And in relation to the *checks wikipedia* 11 year old technology. This Moore's law guy has clearly never visited TI's headquarters.

It's worse with the "polynomials" though. Just completely winging it. Same exam, number 1. I suppose it's pretty subtle, but it's something that always bothered me. This doesn't *LOOK* like a cubic. www.desmos.com/calculator/g...

Interesting partnership to get AI into Desmos....

Dan Anderson @dandersod.recursiveprocess.com · 26/03/2026
One new thing in this reboot: every challenge has a Desmos link showing the final result for you to recreate. Most include hints (like the original list), but the actual expression(s) are hidden - so it’s still up to you to solve. For example, this one opens like this:

Looking for a big timer to put up on a smartboard etc to let students know how much time is left on a test but don't want to have seconds shown? I had a couple of different copies, but AI just jazzed this one up with some themes: recursiveprocess.com/newtimer.html

Ok, so I threw the task at AI again and it now guesses the color in three guesses using the same idea as my original hack at it. Code if interested: pastebin.com/ZrmfyhG2

Teaching law of sines/cosines and the fancy area of triangle formula (1/2 a b sinC) are fun. Get to bring in a ton of Geometry that they thought they were done with. Why is using law of sines to find an angle dangerous? etc. One of those weeks where their worlds are colliding.

41 guesses today using the one dimension at a time binary search today

Dan Anderson @dandersod.recursiveprocess.com · 28/01/2026
Now the script uses a Binary Search for each channel. It keeps Green and Blue steady while jumping through Red values (e.g., trying 125, then 190). If the score goes up, it narrows the search higher; if not, it goes lower. Once Red is "peaked," it moves to Green, then Blue. It worked today!

Trying to teach the connections between the cosine and arccosine graphs. How's this for an idea? Give them a square sheet, fold at a diagonal. Draw the cosine graph on one side, flip the paper along the y=x line and then use ink bleed through to "see" arccosine (I'm sure it's been done already)

Stand up and Ponder (routine?). I make the AP CS Principles kids get up and talk through random puzzlers together. Making the kids talk really helps their future williness to ask their peers for help. Today was just someone next to them, in the future the groups will be randomly selected. #photo180

Are you stuck on a windows computer like me? One pro-tip would be to enable the accessibility shortcut where you can make the mouse cursor ripple so that when you're talking to a class they can see where you're looking. (the next post will have the windows instructions) #photo180
