Kind of can't stop thinking about Exxon saying they're expecting global warming to hit 5°C by 2050 and how that means something like 4 billion dead and we're all just pumping gas into our cars and having endless wars just like always. And yeah I need to fill up on dead dinosaurs too.

Been there, felt it. It's a deep thing you're doing. Worth letting it just be a fermenting agent in you. Tend to your emotions like a good pickled vegetable. Check in regularly, skim off any toxic stuff growing, and otherwise let your mind and spirit go through the healthy process.

Always! We had a Hanukkah tour with Michael Winograd and the honorable mentshn in '23 where we had Sasha Lurje singing ABBA's "the way old friends do" in Yiddish (translated by Mikhl Yashinsky). I think it worked in Yiddish! Trying to find a recording.

I asked West Philly yiddishists to write a "Doykeit edition" of the Hasidic song "Yidden" for the Simcha Band to play at Kol Tzedek Synagogue's Simchat Torah, and Joshua and co. just went and freaking did it. I'm so grateful to have community who excitedly brought this dream to life! It was epic.

I agree very few bands mining that sound and US Maple being a contender! First thought is that the material situation of bands like Beefheart (living together, practicing an odd musical vision constantly) are really hard to do now. I'l make a plug for the band Yowie. Diff. sound, but the spirit!

!!! Wow. I had the honor of meeting Immanuel when he was maybe 12? and sitting in with an adult big band rehearsal in Philly and holding his own. Somehow it didn't surprise me with the energy he put off even then and while I'm thrilled at this award, I'm still happily not surprised. The REAL DEAL.

43 years old today. Recovering from a cold, but in high spirits. I can happily say I am super rich in all the things money can't buy! Family, community, music, All totally great. I feel blessed. And I wouldn't say no to some more $$$ though how to do it without sacrificing the some of those...

This sucks and as a musician it sounds all too believable. I'd love to see a roundup. While I know some institutions (Big 5 Orchestras, Broadway) have seen pay increases, I also have plenty of personal anecdotal evidence that gig fees and stuff have stayed stagnant since the early 90s. That's hard!
