Fuck ChatGPT flyers. The future is broadsheets.
A crowded broadsheet with way too many fonts. It says:
Forget ChatGPT Flyers
Say it with
Broadsheets
Unlimited fonts
Stretch them
Or cram a really long sentence into one line for no good reason
No whitespace
Mix capital and lowercase
Pointing hands
(They're called manicules!)
Don't be left behind
Broadsheets are the future

Nick Park spent the '80s making A Grand Day Out mostly alone. It was a school project that got out of hand -- he wanted to quit many times. But Park stuck with it and fulfilled his dream of bringing a cinematic feel to stop motion. We explore: animationobsessive.substack.com/p/wallace-an...

Aicomics reddit is fascinating. Here are people who have swapped the joy of trying to draw for the trudgery of trying to get a machine to stay on track. Spreadsheets and character sheets and prompts optimising all come before story and certainly art isnt in the mix at all.

So, let me get this straight. The problem with the pervert glasses... was the glasses not the pervert? And, if said pervert's a cute Kawaii-style beastie, it's all fine. Gotcha.

Ecko swears like a motherfucker, won't do as he's told, and enjoys blowing shit up. Is he Chosen? Is he fuck. Does he have magic? No, he has an attitude and boosted reflexes. Is there a prophecy? You know exactly what you can do with that. He does have a very cool map, tho'...
My very old, hand-drawn map of the Varchinde, still on my noticeboard over my desk. Shows a classic fantasy continent, framed by seas, mountains and forests, veined with rivers and dotted with cities.

I read Ecko Rising last month and loved it! Cyberpunk with a fantasy map in the front?!? Definitely jam. Also, use of juddering. Not a word you hear outside of Norfolk very often

Also: the original Wandering Inn (The Wandering Bard, as it was named for the game, becoming The Wanderer in the book).
Pencil sketch-map of the inside of a tavern, made on squared paper, and very, very old!

Oh amazing, really glad you enjoyed it! It's very much a Marmite book (certainly the first one), and I'm always really happy to know that people like it! (And yes, thirteen years in Norfolk. Me not Ecko).

Cheeky royalties from ECKO, and lovely to know that people still buy a fourteen-year-old book. Was it for everyone? No. Was it clean, neat and polite, obeying traditional genre boundaries? Also no. Was it it #LitRPG fiction, in advance of the current trend? Well maybe, tho' not as you'd expect.
Ecko Rising, Burning and Endgame, by Danie Ware, covers by Martin Stiff at Amazing15.

They quoted me in this New Yorker piece about AI today. www.newyorker.com/culture/the-...
“Let’s say there’s a world or time line I exist in where A.I. has been subject to regulation. It is ethical. It has no footprint environmentally,” the novelist Jeff VanderMeer, a prominent critic of A.I., told me over the phone. “With those guardrails in place, would I read an A.I. book? All I can say is no. And the reason is, in part, because I want to read something coming from a particular mind.” Using A.I., he said, “feels like a betrayal of the whole point of why you’re a writer.”

Night. The House of Chimes - a tower which you might immediately think of as Big Ben - is adrift in the River Thames. It still seems to be keeping time. In the background, a large, alien building looms over the city of London.

Spending less and less time scrolling/online has such a measurable rate of return, and it's happened quite surprisingly quickly. I haven't quite (yet?) regained my youthful ability to 'lose' myself completely, but I'm hoping that will come.

Benefits of less time online* I read a whole book yesterday. Not a big book, or a complicated one - was one of the Louise Cooper Indigo series - but a whole book. And I honestly can't remember the last time I had, not the hours in my day, but the attention span.
