I think a lot of people have a bias against random encounters based on "immersion breaking" which causes them to disregard some the elegant abstraction that random encounters provide. Especially when the player goal is to go on a dangerous journey.

At my job, AI is being pushed hard by the aged management class, just like every other country. The whole point, as with every other country, is cost savings (they want to stop paying humans). There are endless “projects” and “orders” to introduce it into the workflow everywhere
