20 Years of HPV Vaccine Success This 3-part series from explores real stories of cancer cases and the perspectives of experts and advocates fighting to ensure vaccine hesitancy doesn't undo progress: bit.ly/3RSbKIL
Graphic with text that reads, "Human papillomavirus (HPV) causes six types of cancer. Three real stories showcase the progress we’ve made, and what’s at risk if we move backwards 20 years ago, a vaccine was approved to prevent it." Photos of 3 people in separate circles are shown indicating each has their own personal story. Graphic with text that reads, "“It’s called the human papillomavirus because if you are a human, you are probably going to be exposed to it.” Rebecca Perkins, MD Tufts Medical Center"Image with text that reads, "Most sexually active people will get HPV without issue. But for 1 in 10 people, the virus persists — potentially causing cancer. HPV vaccines reduce the risk of cervical
cancer by 80% in women vaccinated by age 16." Icon of a vaccine is displayed next to text. Graphic with text that reads, "'All I can do is
tell them that Aunt Erica died of this disease. And that a vaccine could have saved her life.'

Erica and her sister Hallie were 21 and 17 when the HPV vaccine was approved. Hallie got vaccinated. Erica — who had already tested positive for HPV in the past — did not. After a tough fight and tireless advocacy for the cause, Erica passed away from cervical cancer at 33."

A couple quick observations here, which should be obvious. 1) insurance “risk pools” work by requiring younger/healthier people who make few or no claims to sign up and pay premiums alongside older/less healthy people who do, essentially covering their costs.
