I think it's a sort of mono-shade simplicity that makes it. Team Yell feels like they broke the trend because its so much, comparatively (spikes, rips, pins), but Team Star seems to pull back to a simpler look while still being detailed.
Also besides old Team Plasma they all look very comfortable.
