Weirdly, getting any OS to recognise it as a drive was the hardest thing. 2010 MacBook couldn't do it, I couldn't in Linux either but the disk management utility in Windows made it happen.

Flash modded my iPod mini and replaced the battery! Lots of fun and rewarding saving old tech from landfill, but even as an 'easier' mod, definitely only for people who like to tinker.

Was it fun? Yes! Was it stressful? The physical side was just like the tutorials and mostly fine. But getting the iPod to show up in iTunes was hard - 2010 mac couldn't revive it, Linux couldn't but windows could through the disk management utility - my 2003 MCSE skills getting a chance to shine 😅

Long time ago, I talked to someone who worked for the oil industry. I suggested the industry might be harmful. He told me if he gave me a small bowl of crude, it wouldn't do any harm. It was everything around it that did the harm. I don't know what to think really. Mostly I just feel sad.

I am sure I am very capable of stuffing it up 😅 the gen 2 minis are meant to be the easiest to open and mod. You can use a compact flash card without an adapter. Finding a reputable battery may be harder. We'll see!
