Say it with me, folks: Fiction. Is. Not. Real. We are all responsible for our own discomfort and for curating accordingly.

theres this one tumblr post ive seen talking about that phenomenon but w fiction writing that I think about often

darling of dots feb 24
been stewing on an analytical approach to fiction which call "is this book afraid of me?" and in order to answer this question you determine how hard the book is trying to make sure you don't come after the writer on twitter

the fucked-up part is that specifically notice this in like, BIPOC or queer romances because their authors a) are more likely to be harassed online b) tend to care about writing inclusive and intersectional books more, both of which are totally valid reasons, but unfortunately a book that is scared to be misunderstood is also scared to challenge the reader or allow for too much nuance or grey areas or character flaws and am sorry to say that it often makes for less compelling stories because it means shying away from ambiguities and complexities in an effort to reassure me, the reader, that everyone here is a Good Person engaging in Healthy Behaviours and Relationships

One reason why I came to bsky from Instagram was that I was tired of only posting sfw drawings and if I didn't, I'd get shadowbanned or worse... Here we have a nice thing called "labels", so every time I click on "show" I consent to viewing nsfw. Why additional censorship? #BskyCensorship

just because media is uncomfortable for you doesn’t mean it shouldn’t exist. the update to bluesky’s tos is disappointing. if you don’t like a movie don’t watch it, if you don’t like a book don’t read it. bluesky is built so that you have complete agency and control over the content you see

Restricting the expression of sexuality through fiction and art made by adults, for adults – including those you find personally disturbing or offputting – is conservative censorship, full stop. When that censorship disproportionately affects subgroups, that's also discrimination. For shame.

New TOS censorship of fictional adult content is a massive overreach and makes this definitively not a free and open platform. It demonizes survivors and silences artists. Everyone is telling you a much healthier way is to give us better tools, like more robust labels, to moderate ourselves

"Porn bans" ALWAYS lead to trans bans Michigan bill seeks to lock up trans people for posting selfies.

A bill introduced by Michigan lawmakers last week would ban porn, ASMR, depictions of trans people, and VPNs for anyone using them in the state.

on recovering from an ED and learning body neutrality over body positivity • #queerartist #disabledartist #edrecovery #bodyneutrality

a full body drawing of a chubby femme being held from behind by an extremely underweight girl. they are standing in water that is about ankle deep. the person in the front has short curly hair and is looking downwards. their cheeks, knees, shoulders and breasts have spiral patterns of blush on them. they are in a sports bra and bikini underwear. the girl behind them has hair down to her hips and reaches out multiple sets of arms around the person in front, bruising everywhere she grabs. she looks extremely tired. behind them, purple geometric patterns frame the girl in the back, and red spirals frame the person in the front. next to them, the text reads "I am you and you are me. what you believed is under my skin - you were all sharp edges because you had to be, so you hate what we see in our mirror today. but I love you in a way you can't love me, because time gives the gift of perspective."

the text reads "I am you and you are me. what you believed is under my skin - you were all sharp edges because you had to be, so you hate what we see in our mirror today. but I love you in a way you can't love me, because time gives the gift of perspective." the words skin, sharp edges, had, and love are in deep purple, and the rest of the text is in a deep blue. perspective is underlined.

A close up of the torso of the girl in the front of the piece. you can see small details such as hand prints imprinted on her in red, pinks in the purple bruises and stretch marks in a light blue.

sketch dump (I am now 6300 bugs deep in my animal crossing nightmare) #visualart #disabledartist #queerartist

a circular bottle with a small neck and a cork topper hovers in mid air like it's falling. a rope with a tag is tied around the bottle neck, the rope twisting upwards and the tag going to the right. the tag reads "love potion *butterflies not included". there are two small stars with frowning faces hovering to the upper right of the bottle. the liquid sloshes to the top and is leaking out the left side of the cork. the drawing is done in hues of pink, purple, blue and green. a signature to the left of the bottle reads "AO'24" with the A shaped like a star.

a full body chibi style drawing of a person in a sweater and cuffed jeans. they're holding on to a net that has clearly snapped in the middle from their strong grip. they have shoulder length curly hair and big eyes, but one of them is twitched like they're losing their mind. an arrow points to them, captioned with the words "3700 bugs deep". the drawing is done in hues of blue and purple, and the signature to the bottom right reads "AO'24" with the A shaped as a star.
