Nathan Jeffery @ctrl-n.bsky.social · 06/09/2026They went to the trouble of making a movie. They got a number of the original creators on board. But what came out wasn't funny or touching or meaningful. And it could've been. I'm not in this space, but I think something's wrong with the creative process for shows right now. ☹️ /3 110
Nathan Jeffery @ctrl-n.bsky.social · 06/09/2026- especially Toph, which is a shame because it felt like her voice contradicted her characterization. Without sharing spoilers, there was a whole chunk where it felt like another franchise entirely - like I was suddenly watching Dragon Ball or Ganondorf maybe? And my lament is: /2 110
Nathan Jeffery @ctrl-n.bsky.social · 06/09/2026Just watched the new #Avatar Aang movie and ... it's not good? It felt like an off-brand version of itself. The animation and character design is really good. And they got a number of creators from the TV series. But the voice cast is wrong, so much so that nobody sounds like themself - /1 110

Nathan Jeffery @ctrl-n.bsky.social · 14/07/2026Loving this conversation so far. Validation makes a lot of sense as the "next step" after a codebook / dictionary. Like, first we describe it, then we check if the description is valid. With file downloads, hashing lets us check validity. I can see having an executable validator for data files. 040

Nathan Jeffery @ctrl-n.bsky.social · 08/07/2026I use (a), because I tend to think it's easier to type an age than to find it from a list of available options, and as long as the validation works (i.e. I don't have to clean up a bunch of text responses), I'm happy to aggregate/bin the data later if needed. What do y'all do? And why? 😄 000

Nathan Jeffery @ctrl-n.bsky.social · 05/05/2026But like, seriously?! This is one of the times when the low-hanging fruit feels like it's from a different tree. Clicks and flash cards are not evidence of "engagement," as they require no mental activity. Plus, to your point Elaine, they can make it *harder* to engage w/ the material. 110
Nathan Jeffery @ctrl-n.bsky.social · 05/05/2026It feels so patronizing. Like, I know they want to measure course engagement, and clicks are the low-hanging fruit, so having us click through flash cards is used to say that the content is "interactive" and that we "engaged" with the material. 110
