Can't really talk about it much without spoiling the event I'm thinking of though I can say its the first time I'd personally seen a create-a-character have such a thing happen to them. Also, insert Shrek "that explains alot" meme image here I guess.

I know you were looking forwards to getting them, and I hope you have lots of fun with them because they are lots of fun. But last I checked you were at the end of chapter 4 and I know you'd have thoughts about some story events that happen between then and getting the skell license.

Kind of a buried lede in the results of this Supreme Court approval rating poll from Marquette: Overall support for Supreme Court expansion, which even Democratic politicians were dismissing as "radical" just a few years ago, is now at 53 percent today.marquette.edu/2026/09/marq...

New taxes are already prohibited without ballot measures in California. Props 41 - 44 are designed to negate the billionaire tax. That's all. Prop 45 removes environmental restrictions for data centers. We're so easily fooled, it's sad. YES on prop 40 (billionaire tax) NO on props 41-45.

Other things HR wants from you: Stop breaking your pinky toe by stubbing it on furniture on your way to the bathroom late at night. Had to calm a panicked coworker by talking to HR for them, HR told me to tell them this (I was texting the coworker for this convo) after granting the needed time off.

BREAKING NEWS KOSA failed to pass in the US Senate (thanks to Paul, R.), but remember this was the FOURTH attempt from American politicians to get it passed. Expect another attempt in the next term; stay vigilant, and do not let the USA adopt ID-collecting laws such as the SCREEN Act & KOSA.

No idea if anything specific is live for it, but its possible if you have prime through some way or another. I think I saw something about an 8 Terabyte Sandisk drive thats like $900 when its normally 2 grand somewhere. But that was a really high capacity example.

Not necessarily short form, but facebook was responsible for the whole "pivot to video" that wrecked a lot of writing careers a decade or so ago, if I recall correctly. Something about lying about numbers of site visitors' preferences for video over written content.

WELL NOW, would you look at that? A massive, 26-YEAR-LONG study of MORE THAN 2.4 MILLION people in Sweden found NO EVIDENCE to support a causal link between acetaminophen (the API in Tylenol) use during pregnancy and increased risk of autism, ADHD, OR intellectual disability in children.

Hm. Now I'm kinda curious if anything else can trigger the feeling. If you get a chance, try a bottle of Tejava iced tea. Most tea doesn't really make me hyper, but that one? Even the small plastic bottles do. That said you'd need to add your own sugar, no sweet versions, so far as I know.

Too bad for me then, everyone with a radio only wants the slop it seems. I don't listen to this stuff myself, it only happens when other people put it on, like the speakers across the warehouse that is my place of work.

Its like what you'd hear in a movie club scene where the music is just there to drown everything out. (To be fair I've pretty much always disliked the kind of music you'd find in a club, but this feels, I dunno, more widespread and popular around me these days?)

I'm still of the mind that the last two are more perception than reality, but even I'm actually genuinely agreeing about the music part. Sooooo many new "songs" I hear are mainly 4 note bass on repeat 300 times in 5 minutes with minimal/no variance and occasionally a dim voice in the background.

One of the more common responses I've seen from people talking to you about this is, even though they're personally doing ok, they feel precarious for one reason or another. Could be that people might be treating the federal minimum wage in particular as a fallback or safety net of sorts.
100
Crystalorbie @crystalorbie.bsky.social · 18/09/2026
People might've seen the inflation but accepted it better since the minimum wage went up too + trust that the minimum wage was "enough." Since its been so long since the last one, *and* with less trust in "enough," that baseline could erode overall trust in the economy, regardless of other factors.

Crystalorbie @crystalorbie.bsky.social · 18/09/2026
(specifically, how common were minimum wage increases during previous bouts of inflation?)

Crystalorbie @crystalorbie.bsky.social · 18/09/2026
Hm... Since we're all guessing here... Obvious things are tech levels are different -> comms levels are different ~> education levels (on the topic at least...?) being different? Other ideas, I know its been ~17 years since the minimum wage increased. How common was that during previous inflation?

One of the biggest issues with discourse on this site is that a lot of ppl have no theory of mind for people who don't think exactly like they do They just toss them in the NPC category and while that's tempting you can't really understand anything if you don't know how other ppl think!

BREAKING: SCOTUS denies the Trump administration’s request to enforce the new U.S. Postal Service rule for the 2026 elections. Justices Alito and Thomas dissent. More to come at Law Dork. www.lawdork.com
SUPREME COURT OF THE UNITED STATES
No. 26A305
UNITED STATES POSTAL SERVICE, ET AL. U.
CALIFORNIA, ET AL.
ON APPLICATION FOR STAY
[September 14, 2026]
The application for stay presented to JUSTICE JACKSON and by her referred to the Court is denied. The Government is unlikely to succeed on the merits of its challenge to the District Court's preliminary injunction. And the equitable factors applicable for obtaining emergency relief from this Court do not favor a stay.
JUSTICE KAVANAUGH, concurring.
In my view, based on the briefing the Court has received at this interim stage, there is at least a fair prospect that the final rule falls within the Postal Service's statutory authority. See 39 U. S. C. §401(2). But applying the rule in the 2026 elections would be arbitrary and capricious in violation of the Administrative Procedure Act because state and local election officials do not have sufficient time to reasonably implement the rule before the elections. See 39
U. S. C. §3001(m); 5 U. S. C. §706(2)(A). For that reason, I concur in the denial of the application for stay.
