Why are men like this? The locking. The fiddling about. This is an honest question. Most women I know would have employed a screwdriver and a rubber mallet within minutes, then settled in for a cup of tea and a laughing text about the ordeal to their friends. Oh god, I hear a drill. brb

I'm all for just bashing the lock in and being done with it. We're not using the chest for anything fancy — I emptied it of my things this past week. It'll store blankets or something benign. I'd rather not have a death trap hanging around the house.

Now he and his father are using lockpicks, WD40, and a lot of prayer to try to jimmy it open again. They looked up the make and model online and found out that this chest had been recalled decades ago because kids were climbing inside and getting locked in. Oh. Huh. Wow. Guess we got lucky.

I was given a hope chest when I was 16, nearly 40 years ago. Not once in all those years, all these moves, did I lock it. I couldn't even tell you where the keys are. Probably inside of it. When left alone with the now-emptied chest for fewer than 5 minutes, my 20-year-old son managed to lock it.

The Brougham with metallic paint. Champagne.
Or so your old man claimed. Each year in spring

and early fall he'd wash away the road tar—dry
the finish with a chamois—smooth the wax on

in the shade. For 40 years and more he drove
a forklift―ate bologna from a black Aladdin lunch

pail—stuck his timecard in a wall rack—did his job
without complaint. On weekends—clad in vinyl

slides—he'd fix what needed mending in the tool
room—clean the bedknife on his push reel—mow

the lawn in guileless solitude. Come evening—
with a can of ale—he'd cool off on the stoop

and smoke a Player's—sit and think a while.
The LTD beside him like the child he couldn't save.

Three hours. It was for some B2B, door-to-door sales for potted plants for waiting rooms. I was shadowing on that first day with a total creep, the work was weird and not what I wanted to be doing anyway (obviously), so I left at lunch and just. Yeah. Didn't return or call or anything.

I sprained my face eyerolling at a request like that and left soon after. I was posting about local (Irish, agricultural history and land use), and someone in New Jersey, US, said I should flag traumatic historical events. Greenhouse funding schemes are traumatic there, I guess.

I appreciate your time on this. I'm sure you have higher priorities, but this is something affecting people in the Rush/Lusk/Skerries area (2022 census combined population is 30,424). If 58% of population is using it (2023 figures, see link), that's 17k local users. www.rte.ie/news/busines...

With so many millions of dollars being spent on this system, I think we're all interested to know what we've bought and how that's coming along. Especially in light of the recent fare hike and other budgetary news.

We're still within their promised window, but the year is ending soon. We haven't seen improvements out here along the 33 (in Rush) so far. If anything, it's worse. It's causing disruption, cancelled medical appointments, and issues with college students missing their classes and exams.

This new Monsters Inc movie looks cool:
It's not "Monsters Inc"! Of course not! It's a b+w image from a 1950s US science fiction magazine, in which a globular one-eyed creature stands next to various humanoids. The image has been humorously repurposed with the Disney/Pixar reference. I mean, I say "humorously" ...

Excellent! Mine is at 43, after a complicated dosage regime (T2 came on the back of a thyroid shutdown, which came on the back of a Covid infection). We think the thyroid dosage is finally right, so expect the HbA1c to behave. I was on Metformin for 1+ years but recently was switched to Ozempic.

Soon after we moved to Ireland, I took my art kid to one of OisÍn's workshops at the library in Blessington. Kids rolled out of there wide-eyed, fired up and clutching the things they'd worked on, which all looked brilliant. I highly recommend taking your budding artists and doodlers both to this!
