Seattle uses the 160-acre Jackson Park as a golf course. What does this mean for salmon? 2 creeks flow thru into Lake Washington & would be exceptional salmon habitat BUT >66% of the water in the North Fork is drained to irrigate the course, at a rate of >30k gallons/hr. jp4all.org/learn-more/e...
Golf course with two swiggly blue lines pictured. The longer one, Thornton Creek North Fork, starts at 145th and I-5 and crosses the lower 1/3 left corner of the golf course, then travels east and goes a little bit north and exits the map. The other, Little's Creek, clips the right top 1/4 corner of the course.

Given the discourse, you'd never know that 99% of single-stair apartments are built in the suburbs.

Seems like a problem is Florida DOT is (one of?) the only state DOT that studies and publishes roadway capacity data - which is referenced and used all over the country apparently. Given that they have one of the deadliest arterial/highway networks in the country.

So to zoom all the way back in, if we want buildings like these to (a) exist in walkable neighborhoods & smaller cities and (b) have elevators inside, we need to exert influence on the private (national, but not governmental!) standards-writing bodies that have failed to get with the elevator times.

But, mostly banned by zoning, no one stood up for lil apartment buildings. So over the years, our multifamily codes have made more and more choices that make sense for big 100-unit complexes but not for neighborhood-scale buildings. A bunch of those have to do with elevators.

The revealed preference for of cottage cluster development in Oregon is fascinating... tons of small detached houses being built with minimal private open space. Not really like anything we've seen in the US in close to 100 years.

Did not expect to come to São Paulo and see a giant piece of piece of art about the recovery of the Elwha River in Washington State

Colagem de imagens de satélite, impressão de látex sobre papel de parede livre de PVC [Satellite photo collage, latex print on

CORTESIA DA ARTISTA
[COURTESY OF THE ARTIST], LOS ANGELES

Part of the body of work Be Dammed, Elwha's Healing is a large-scale photocollage made from satellite imagery.
This work addresses the recovery of the Elwha River, located in the northwestern United States, which returned to its natural course in 2014, when its dams-built in the early twentieth century-were removed after decades of activism. As a consequence, native salmon and trout were able to resume their migration, bringing with them marine nutrients that supported the river ecosystem's recovery. The fauna and flora along the riverbanks were also reestablished. This work dialogues with The Collpsing of a Model (Brumadinho) and marks a turning point in Caycedo's practice, which moves beyond denunciation alone to incorporate processes of repair and healing.

Looking at historical timber harvests for a work project and, having grown up in the 90's in WA and hearing vaguely about it all the time, it is striking to see the drop-off. This is for western Oregon. Blue line is volume of lumber produced.

I think is a good idea actually... Election night you only get results on County Commissioner X, incumbent Senator Y, ballot measure Z, and then over the next few days the closer races trickle in, until finally you get results on the knife-edge race. Seems like it would be great for ratings, also.
010
Urbmonger @crowshair.bsky.social · 18/09/2026
Perhaps counties should just not release results until all the ballots are in? Or only release results once the results are very unlikely to flip?

What's amazing about the chemtrails conspiracy is that it's both completely true (aviation emissions change the climate and impact your health) but completely misdiagnoses the cause (fossil fuels, not "spraying"), therefore leading absolutely nowhere.
