ROOT @crootr.bsky.social · 03/08/2026Maybe? I dunno man. I don't usually make puzzles, all of this is very new to me. I have a base, called Baba Is You and Moonleap as a good puzzle examples, I'm trying to learn from them, but I'll not actually know until I make it. 100
ROOT @crootr.bsky.social · 03/08/2026Maybe just removing traps and leaning the difficulty more in the puzzles. 100
ROOT @crootr.bsky.social · 02/08/2026Just posted a bunch of stuff on my YT channel about my #GMTK Jam Entry, including a trailer, the soudntracks and a gameplay of it. It would be cool if you watched it. Links on the thread🧵 youtu.be/eLeCQdjUwfc #gamedev #pixelart #gamemaker 160
ROOT @crootr.bsky.social · 01/08/2026Yes, along with a tune of all the platforming physics and some other small issues, like some collision inconsistencies with corners. 100
ROOT @crootr.bsky.social · 01/08/2026Both I guess? The platforming is good overall, but the walljump is really phinicky making some sections stupid precise, there are jumps that require the coyote time and there are literally trap sections that the player can just guess which path is right. It was an overall game design lesson for me. 100
ROOT @crootr.bsky.social · 31/07/2026#GMTK Game Jam 2026 results! I got 370th ranking in Artwork, LET'S GO! I little bad on the Enjoyment category, but that is specially on me for making the game too hard with some unfair mechanics. ROOT @crootr.bsky.social · 27/07/2026Now, if you want to, please go play Countdown Compass and help Crimson escape the Oblivion on it's 14 levels. I'd say it takes about 10 min max to finish the game. I'll be uploading the soundtrack later on my Youtube channel (if anyone is interested) 000
ROOT @crootr.bsky.social · 27/07/2026IN THE END, I was able to release the game, but lacking a ton a stuff, like particles, props, details, a title screen and some sfx. But honestly speaking, I really like how this game turned out. I managed to make the most of it out of the time I had and it turned pretty amazing. 100
ROOT @crootr.bsky.social · 27/07/20267) I was only able to release the Countdown Compass because the submission time was extended for 1 hour, because otherwise I would not have made it. Afterwards, I started enhancing the Itch page. Here's a clip of me doing something very cool completly intentionally. 100
ROOT @crootr.bsky.social · 27/07/20266) The final push was hell. I stayed late until 2AM of the 4th day to make some of the level's layouts (without the tileset mind you) and discovered (and fixed) a ton of unwanted bugs that would turn the game unplayable. 100
ROOT @crootr.bsky.social · 27/07/20265) Then during the 3rd Day, I made the 3 songs that I use on the game, some sfx (with my voice) to use on the player, made a very detailed opening cave (the levels ended not being as detailed due to time) and use Game Maker's Filters to add this Glow effect. 100
ROOT @crootr.bsky.social · 27/07/20264) During the 2nd day, I also added the compass overlay, a screen transition and changed the font to Pixel Operator (It would later be changed for Silver, but stayed Pixel Operator for the Level Transitions) 100
ROOT @crootr.bsky.social · 27/07/20263) I took then some time to work on some sprites for the game. Most of the sprites, tileset and elements, like the Walljump and change of the distance (from pixels to meters) was made on the 2nd day. 100
ROOT @crootr.bsky.social · 27/07/20262) I then made this concept, on Aseprite, to concept how I wanted the game to look like. The idea was for the player to see the game though the titular compass' glass. I also managed to get the general idea for the artstyle of the game. 100
ROOT @crootr.bsky.social · 27/07/20261) Took me about 5 hours to come up with the concept. "Count Down the distance of the player to its goal, and don't let it Count Up again." It was about 9 PM, and it took me about an hour or so to make a prototype. I liked the idea, and decided to go through with it. 100
