So for the past few days I've been doodling my fatal flaw characters as an October challenge, so here's the first four days!
Day 1
Ballpoint pen drawing of Liv, Jesse's teenage sister sleeping on top of Jesse, highlighted with pink marker with text saying 'honk shoo' and 'mimimi'Day 2
Nix and Beau gaming together. Nix being far too casual about just having died in a soulslike game while Beau is very intense about their rhythm game. Highlighted with pink marker with the words 'perfect combo'.Day 3
Bibi experimenting with makeup on her dad Félix (or Mercury). Highlighted with pink marker and with text saying;
'Do u feel bonita?
'I feel bonita.'
'Good! Because you look bonita!'Day 4
Ulan holding his cat Blackie or 'Inday' as he affectionately calls her whilst his sphinx cat Rat climbs his shoulder and digs claws into him.
Highlighted with pink marker with the words 'Rat' above the sphinx cat and 'Inday' above the black cat.

Since I'm getting a bunch of practise inking with a brush, I thought I'd do so throughout the following month in a breakthrough and wholly original concept I'm calling 'Octobink'. I'll be doodling mine and my friends' OCs and there's very little short of kidnap you can do to stop me. #Octobink
A black ink-brush illustration on white paper sits on a purple carpet. The illustration shows the patchwork construct character October leaning back and looking up at the title 'Octobink' above them. Holding a finger to their mouth, they say 'That sounds a b-bit cumbersome'. They are flanked with horizontal black lines of increasing thickness as they descend.

The adventures of young January and February continue with an outdoor excursion. Will they ever find out why moths aren't birds? No. #October&Co
A digital comic showing the younger lives of the young adult January and child February, recently abandoned frankenstein-eque constructs trying to make it through life. Outside in the pinkish-blue evening glow of a recreation park, January sits hunched over a wooden bench-table, scraggly mane cascading from their green hood, holding an open book in their hands. The young February trots in, with pink shirt, low-ponytail and bright eyes, brandishing a yellow/pink moth in their outstretched hands.
Feb: January! Can I ask a question?
Jan: Sure buddy, fire
Feb: What bird is this?
Jan: That's a moth. I think. It's not a bird.
Feb: Why isn't it a bird?
Jan: Uh... it... We'll ask someone at the zoo next week, yeah?
Feb: Okay
February shuffles up to January's side as the two of them look into the book January holds. The moth flitters around as January's expression drops slightly, as they start scanning the pictures in lieu of any meaningful ability to read the words.
Feb: Are you reading about food again?
Jan: Trying. Just a little project of mine.February points into the book
Feb: What's a ha... haoma?
Jan: Oh, it's a kind of, uh, plant syrup. I think? Bit like soma. Hang on, I'll show you a picture.
January starts flicking through pages in search of an illustration they recognise as February patiently waits tucked up against their shoulder. The moth has settled on February's surprisingly still head. After a slightly embarrassingly long time, January has a realisation and looks over to February.
Jan: Wait... You can *read*!?
February turns to face them and nods quietly, causing the moth to flutter off.
Now in the warm fluorescent ambience of a communal kitchen, the siblings stand before a stovetop. Little February holds the recipe book open, now wearing a small catering cat and bow-tie before bowls and bags of well laid-out ingredients. January's hair now contained in a hair net, stands wielding a wooden spoon poking into of a spattered saucepan, matching the state of the ingredients beside them. February reads out the recipe:
Feb: Then two... 'T.S.'?
Jan: Teaspoons?
Feb: Two teaspoons of 'Newt Extract'
Jan: You mean this?
They uncertainly display a red jar to February who leans in to read the label.
Feb: Umm... That says 'Cockatrice Purée'
Jan: They're similar, right?
Feb: Mmm... We should try it.
Jan: Good idea.

In an effort to catch you up with my OC daydreaming, here's a little insight into the backstory of the Calendars. A year and a smidge after a young January was found abandoned in a rainy graveyard, they get a little visitor. Sometimes the best thing to say is what you needed to hear. #October&Co
On a dark, rain-soaked evening, we see two characters on a bleak hostel bunk-bed. Hunched over the side of the lower, red-sheeted bunk is the gangly late-teen form of a frankensteinian character (later named January) old library book in-hand, a look of fed-up concentration on their face. Dangling above them is the slick, blue form of a Wyrm-like character, poking their nose and many arms into January’s business.
Wyrm: Cookbook, eh? You tryin’a get that canteen job?
Jan: Dunno. I’ve gotta do something, right?
Wyrm: Surprised you can read it.
Jan: I found one with a bunch of pictures, I’ll pick it up.
We see them from below, Jan still trying to concentrate on the pictures in their book as their companion looms over them.
Jan: Can’t cook worse than whatever the hostel serves…
Wyrm: Wanna bet? Remember your famous ‘holy’-moly sandwiches?
Jan: Dude, not my fault! How was I meant to know that machine had fire in it?
Wyrm: It was a toaster, and it didn’t before you got hold of it.
Into the room floats the no-nonsense eyes and shiny community-officer caps of a red beholder, calling decidedly toward the minimally perturbed duo.
Beholder: Hey! Kid!
Wyrm: Which one?
Beholder: The one we have to call ‘kid’ because they’re apparently incapable of picking a name.
Jan: What?
Beholder: Need your help with somethin’.
The beholder floats out into the equally drab corridor, January unenthusiastically plodding out behind them. In front are silhouetted two other mystery characters.
Jan: What do you want?
Beholder: We need help identifying someone. You two know each other? In front of January floats the same Wendigo officer who found them abandoned and amnesiac in a graveyard thirteen months ago. More importantly though there stands beside them another frankenstein-esque character, much younger than themself, clad in the same brown robes as they were. The child looks up with scared, pleading, blue eyes cutting through rain-slick hair, coddled in blankets and towels. January stares down, equally wide-eyed unable to quite process what they’re seeing. The resemblance is obvious in the lack of a nose and ill-sutured skin patches, but like everything else January has no memory of them. The small, sodden child silently, tentatively steps towards January, who stands tense and motionless. The two don’t break eye contact as January struggles to think in silence, hands gripped into fists. Before long though they lurch down and clutch the child in a tight, warm embrace, their fluffy bouffant of hair almost enveloping them. Head buried in their shoulder, Jan pours out the words that they wish they’d heard on the night of their own discovery.
Jan: It’s okay. It’s okay. It’s going to be alright. You’re not alone. It’s okay…

A sketch page of Katherine from Fools Gold Sands ep 65 She's really cute and fun to draw. I enjoyed playing with her design a little. #foolsgoldsands
A page of traditional sketches done in pink pencil of a young woman with bat ears, a bat nose, large glasses and pigtails. The upper left is a simple portrait sketch. In the upper right, she is wearing a loose top and trousers and sitting in a wheelchair. The lower middle is another portrait of her where we see more of her neck fur as she leans forward to look at the viewer with curiosity. Filling the blank space are two sketches of fruit bats (one hanging and one in flight)

I'm often guilty of falling into the cartoon trap of creating characters who are welded directly into their singular outfit. Thus a while back I thought I'd stretch my legs beyond a dressing room curtain and play dress-up some OCs. Jay seemed a great start. I have yet to continue.
My original character Jay sporting a variety of outfits. From the top-left:
- 'Casual': Purple-and-white striped tank-top, thigh-high socks and fingerless gloves are worn with crudely-cut black jorts
- 'Work/School': They lean at a standing desk, purple hoodie dangling on a red plaid skirt atop black tights and ankle-boots
- 'Pyjamas/Nightwear': They tiredly hold a pillow and mug, clad in black shorts and purple crop-top
- 'Party': Fishnet gloves and tights are worn beneath a black hoodie, purple crop-top, plaid skirt and tall leather boots, with dark purple makeup
- 'Summer': a wide-brimmed black hat and circular sunglasses cover their head. A strappy, pink 'Miffy' top sits above a pink plaid skirt, fishnets and pink ankle-boots. They cool off with a black folding fan, as a purple bag and tied purple hoodie hang off them.
- 'Winter': A black beanie and stripy purple scarf cover Jay's face exhaling cold air. A black hoodie ends the sensible outfit, the lower half barely covered by a short purple skirt, fishnets and knee-high converse
- 'Wedding': Lacy, fingerless black opera gloves cover Jay's waving arms, matching the trim on a layered, floral black and maroon dress. Their hair is held up with sticks and face adorned with black eyeliner and lipstick
- 'Funeral': An all-black 4-piece suit is accessorised with dark red tie and lapel flower, as Jay's red-painted eyes sit solemnly closed.
- 'Swimwear': Inflatable pink floaties and dinosaur ring flank Jay's body, adorned with swimming trunks and little else.
- 'Christmas': A gaudy green and red elf-dress sits over red and white-striped sleeves and stockings, as their excited face is capped with elfish headwear
- 'Other OC's Clothes': Jay stands leaning casually on the frame of the panel, arm dangling above, wearing an oversized rugby shirt and a suggestive grin
- 'Bonus!' Donned in the infamous belt-dress of Lulu from Final Fantasy X, Jay looks toward the moogle plush in their hand adorned with a mop of yellow hair.

The last of the extant October & Co newsletter comics muscles in, as August tries to work out what's up with October's exercise routine. It's an endless cycle, truly. #October&Co
A three panel digital comic set in the small green apartment of October, a frankensteinian construct. Their muscular sibling August leans over their shoulder from behind, reaching over to grab October's belly through their orange t-shirt, taking them by surprise. August looks up with concern.
August: Dude, what's this? I thought you wanted to work on your Beltane belly!
October: Oh! I, uh, I have b-been trying...
August: You sure about that?
The next panel shows August examining October's calves, pulling on into the ait for closer inspection. October, still taken aback, tilts back leaning on a countertop for support.
August: Hmm... Your calves *are* bulking up thought...
October: I d-did say I was trying.
August: Is it my routine then? Well something's up... Show me your setup!
The final panel shows August leaning against the headboard of October's bed. In the bed the upper half of October lounges, sipping a drink through a straw and glancing up at August. Their lower half sits on a bicycle across the room, pedalling away. August looks at this with wide-eyed bemusement.
August: Y'know dude, I reckon I see the problem...

Sometimes you've just got to doodle your OCs in a meme template responding to reasonable statements in sensible ways to remind yourself that you're a perfectly well-adjusted individual.
A grid of OC faces with each with a caption of their response to "I Love You": January smiles tiredly with a "Thanks"; Rufus unconvincingly grins whilst laughing nervously; Akten peeks up with a sheepish "I'm sorry"; Malakhi winks cheekily, quipping "Who doesn't?"; Claudio folds his arms and judgingly stares at you, saying "A horrible decision, really"; November convulses their head back and laughs hysterically; Jay smiles lackadaisically and points finger guns your way; June turns to glance at you over her boa, sniping "I know"; Kay stares at you bewildered, genuinely wondering "Why?"; Emm flaps about chaotically in her best approximation of a *YEET*; Cat, without dignifying you with a glance away from her book, retorts "If only there were someone out there who loved you"; October looks over their shoulder before apprehensively asking "Me?"; March gives you as close to eye-contact as they're comfortable and deflects "No you don't"; Elle smiles down on you inquisitively, wondering "Already?"; February enthusiastically leans forward and chirps "That's great! Anyway..."; Stoic stares at you enigmatically before resigning with "Not again..."; Finally September, holding back tears of joy, confides "I love me too!"

#3417 I wanted to see if you could make a wordsearch but with characters.
A puzzle with text that reads
'Can you find all the characters?'
'They’re hiding in the grid. Each character tells you the layout of tiles they take up in the grid. Find the correct combination of picture tiles that resemble them. However, it’s important to know that none of them overlap layouts with other characters, that would just be rude!'

In the middle is a 10 by 10 grid featuring icons that look like boots, eyes, bows, skulls, circles, etc.

And surrounding the grid is 11 characters.
A caterpillar with boots on.
A cycloptic star holding a skull.
A cute bear with big boots and a fllower tucked behind their ear.
A cat guy with a bowtie, flowers, and a mug.
A bird carrying a skull.
A skeleton with a flower dress and a bow.
A guy in the bush drawing an eye, with a mug on their head.
A flower in a teacup.
A sentient cup of tea.
A 3-eyed flying triangle.
A skeleton driving a car.

Apparently the oldest not-awful art I have yet to post anywhere is this early render of my whimsical scarecrow Jethro from 5 years ago. To sweeten the deal it comes accompanied with some other Jethro doodlage, including the faux-Carter Goodrich deck-chair picture I keep pestering you all with.
A vaguely watercolour-styled digital drawing of a scarecrow character Jethro. On a rock sparsely surrounded by foliage Jethro stands on one leg, the other outstretched behind him, leaning into the wind. Upon the brim of their straw hat comfortably sits a small songbird. Jethro's hollowed turnip-head leans forward, one of their twig-arms raised above their brow as if to shield from the sun. Across the other side of their tattered red marching coat, their other hand lightly holds onto a pink rose, petals blowing away in the wind. A small parsnip sits in the coat pocket beside the rope belt holding up their tattered blue trousers.A scribbly digital illustration of a mutated scarecrow Jethro on a dark teal background. Reaching out a grotesquely overgrown gnarled hand toward the viewer, their arm blossoms erratically with flowers rising through the twisted trunk. Their centre of their hollowed-out turnip head glows orange beneath a wide-brimmed hat, lurching over their exposed rib-like chest beneath tattered red coat. Their legs, similarly twisted and overgrown, cascade down into clumps of tangled roots and buds. Jethro, a scarecrow in a wide-brimmed straw hat and tattered red marching band-style overcoat, reclines in a deckchair suspended high in the sky by a smattering of balloons tied to the corners. They're holding a glass of champagne with a twig for flavour. This is illustrated in warm red and orange hues mimicking the coloured-pencil style of Carter Goodrich.A green-toned doodle of Jethro (a scarecrow) holding out a candle-snuffer chasing Wick (a candle) holding out a knife.

A piece of fan art of Vannifer from the Fools Gold Sands podcast.
A white, anthropomorphic fox with a golden nose, teeth, eye and jewellery stands with her head tilted towards the camera. She is wearing golden armour that covers her throat, shoulder and chest, with a white capelet draped over her front. The arm in the foreground is visible. It is being consumed by a curse, making it covered in black ichor with pink eyeballs and teeth floating across its surface.

Still catching up on unposted comics, here's a little glimpse into the nightlife of Jay, Kay, Elle and Mal. All perfectly ordinary friendly banter. #OutliersComic
Digital comic set in a deep blue-tinted bar with bright spherical cyan lighting dangling from the ceiling over an array of bottles on a glass shelf. Behind the bar stands Elle, a tall lady with a bouffant of dark curly hair, yellow cutout dress and gold loopy jewellery. In front of the bar stands Kay, a freckly heavy-set man whose shaggy blonde hair obscures his eyes, and whose peach dress glitters beneath a short puffy pink coat. His drink sits bubbling away on the counter beside him as Elle leans over, pulling his chin back towards her with a slightly teasing smile.
Elle: Flower, lovely, you look radiant tonight.
Kay: Oh, uh... thank you.
Elle: Let me guess, peach eyeshadow?
Kay leans forward, blushing slightly at the compliment, as Elle lifts his right hand in hers.
Kay: Oh! How did you...
Elle: You have taste darling, you match with your nails.
Kay: Do I?In slides Jay, Kay's partner, face-up along the bar. A curtain of their purple-tinted dark hair trails behind their head, the rest laying across their right eye. They sport a black hoodie over torn purple and white striped tanktop, fishnet gloves and stockings and a purple tartan skirt. Elle pulls back slightly, looking unimpressedly down at the interloper. Jay looks up with a cheeky smile
Jay: Yo, what about mine? Wanna guess?
Elle: Black, Magpie. Did you forget we could see you again?
Jay: Ah yeah, but what about the other eye?
Grabbing Jay by their choker, Elle pulls them off the bar until they're face-to-face. Elle with a wry smile looks down on the dangling Jay who's enjoying this far too much. Kay pre-emptively picks his drink up from the counter.
Elle: I'm sure I'll see by the morning when it's dripping down your cheek.
Jay: Oh we should both be so lucky.Smash! Elle launches Jay sliding across the bar, knee-high converse flailing in the air as they careen. Elle's curls whoosh behind her exposing her determined grin. Kay leans away from the counter as his partner slides behind him into a great SMASH of, presumably, glasses.
Pulling out we see their friend Malakhi sneaking up on the conversation, trying to covertly cover one of his eyes with his bright blue hair. Without even looking at him, Elle retorts.
Elle: Don't even think about it, Groucho.
Kay looks down to where Jay presumably lays on the floor and holds out a questioning thumbs up. Jay's answering thumbs-up emerges from the bottom of the panel.

Given my friends' fervent propensities to run RPGs I end up making a bunch of characters to play and then largely forget about. Since I'm catching up sharing things, here are some of the more painterly portraits I've made over the years, namely those of Claudio, Rowena, Opiter and Cyril.
A moody evening illustration of the base of a wooden bar counter between the legs of bar stools. Claudio, a wooden puppet, leans against the bar, their head and limbs wrapped in roughly-sewn hessian, buttons in the place of eyes, mouth-hole loosely sewn shut. A red bandana holds back golden curls of hair, held in place by threaded sewing needles. Leather belts wrapped around his body hold pouches on his side and three darts on his back. The whole thing is rendered as a digital illustration in dark, moody brown tones.A rough digital painting of Rowena, a lady standing in a purple-toned forest. She glares unimpressed over her shoulder with her left eye, her right covered in a lens-fitted eyepatch.. Her thick ponytail of scraggly grey-brown hair is braided into a scarf wrapping around her neck and over her shoulder. She wears a green knit jumper, hooded top and leather overcoat onto which the straps of an oversized backpack sit. Her gloved right hand cradles the barrel of a rifle, whilst her sleeveless left arm is shown as constructed from an intricate collection of joints, metal bars, wooden frames and guided wires.A brown-toned digital painting of an older man, Opiter. His balding head is surrounded by a cascade of greying hair, as thick-brimmed circular glasses frame his stoic green eyes. His pencil-moustache-clad mouth stretches widely as he raises an eyebrow in subtle disapproval. He wears a velvet-textured purple suit coat and waistcoat over a high-collared white shirt held shut with dark purple bow-tie.Digital painting of a nervous-looking, wide-eyed man in stark green lighting. His concerned eyebrows arch as if to mimic his pencil moustache in directing your attention up to his pier-like widow's peak. Loosely knotted orange bow-tie dangling out of his unkempt shirt reflects the glow from the ashing cigarette wrinkling out of his mouth. He is, you'd likely suspect, up to something.

Sometimes you just have to paint your OC in the femme fatale role on the cover of a 1955 pulp novel for enrichment purposes. And sometimes you look back and think 'Oh, that was good actually, I'll share it again.' Only sometimes, though.
A loosely-rendered pulp-fashioned digital painting of a blue-haired man, Malakhi. He wears silk red nightwear with a black bow and loose, black fabric belt. Holding a smoking snub-nosed pistol in one hand, he pulls back the curtain he hides behind with the other, peeking around to the light interior.

Okay, but what if my nostalgia for the characters I can't comfortably draw continues to manifest in me showing you the oldest comic of them for which I remember actually being pleased with how I drew them? What then, huh? #OutliersComic
A digital comic set in a pink living room with red curtains and bookshelves in the background. Two men are chatting on a sofa: On the left the blue-haired Malakhi kneels up on a cushion to reach behind the sofa and grab something. He wears a black top, black tights and a magenta skirt whilst in his uncovered hand he holds an empty martini glass. To the right the brown-haired Rufus sits with one leg resting atop the other knee, resting a games controller in his hands thereupon. He wears a red jumper over a lilac shirt, beige trousers and a concerned expression.
Rufus: Hey, Mal? Can I ask you something?
Malakhi: I've told you before Beardo, you're allergic to fashion.

Malakhi, having grabbed the beer bottle he was reaching for, hops up, swinging his legs forward to let gravity pull him down onto the sofa.
Rufus: No, I'm just... worried about something.
Malakhi: Oh wow, that makes a change! As Malakhi goes to bite the top off of the bottle, Rufus relinquishes a hand from his controller to lean in a little more to the inquisition.
Rufus: I just think... Do you think you might be drinking too much?
Malakhi: I'm still awake, so no.
Rufus: No, I mean in general. It really can't be good for you.

Having opened the bottle, Malakhi begins pouring beer into his martini glass. He hands the bottletop to a hand entering in from offscreen.
Malakhi: Rufus, does anyone worry about whether you should've had second breakfast this morning?
Rufus: I do...
Malakhi: Point being we all enjoy what's bad for us. I've got alcohol, you've got cholesterol.
Rufus: I guess... But still...We pull back to see the rest of the living room. Beside Malakhi on the sofa is the monochrome Stoic, sitting cross-armed, facing forward in a stone mask. Awkwardly perched on the arm of the sofa beside him is Emm, a lanky ginger-haired lady in green jumper and jeans. She has her tongue stuck out in concentration as she attempts to balance the bottletop she just took onto the pre-existing stacks of bottletops balancing on the various planes of Stoic's mask, shoulders and arms. Malakhi looks at this feat quietly interested, Rufus concerned.Rufus: What happens if he wakes up?
Stoic turns to answer, knocking the stacks of bottletops everywhere.
Stoic: I am not asleep.
Emm, taken aback by this, is actively falling off of the sofa. Mal leans away from the tumbling tops in annoyance.
Malakhi: Oh come on!! We almost hit the hundred!!

More dutiful catching-up on posting things, and today it's Claudio's spot from my long-forgotten newsletter. It's me, I forgot it. A quick little painting and a gaggle of doodlage for my surprisingly long-running grumpy lil' rag-doll.
A scrappy digital portrait of a grumpy rag doll looking down at the viewer, superimposed upon a blue-tinted background. Thick fluffy felt eyebrows scowl atop the gleaming green button eyes and red bandana wrapped atop yellow rope dreadlocks. His wide mouth grimaces disapproval as two sewing needles protrude from his head, thread still dangling from them.A collection of reddish brown doodles of a small angry rag-doll character Claudio. In the top left he struggles, sopping-wet, to clamber out from being tangled in a pile of clothes in a washing machine. To the right he's being held by the foot, flapping and dangling in the air, by curious lizardman Durgesh. Below that he pokes his head into frame grimacing in frustration. To the left of this is Flynn, the slime, attempting to stop Claudio from going past him, who instead sprints through Flynn with a small splash of slime, leaving a Claudio-shaped hole. Beside this Claudio impishly holds up a box of doughnuts to a brain-in-a-jar robot P.D. who attempts to toss them at Tori the minotaur's horns a la ring-toss Below them a scene from Star Wars plays out, with Claudio shouting "It's over Emmakin! I have the high ground!" to Emm, a lady so tall that despite not having the high ground is still looking down on him. To her right is Claudio, bedecked in a cat-ear headband and whiskers, looking most displeased.A second set of doodles begins in the top left with Claudio clushing on to the lapels of Frankensteinian construct October, pulling their faced close together in anger, much to October's surprise. To their right is a flinching Claudio as a gloved hand jabs him in the head with a sewing needle. Below him, he and P.D. are rocking out to some heavy music, P.D. playing air guiter, Claudio leaping with a ruler as a guitar surrogate. To their left Claudio slams down with both hands onto a surface with all of his (limited) might. Below sees Claudio almost entirely tangled in a network of wires. Finally to the right of him we see October again looking over at Claudio gratefully as the latter sews the former's arm back on.

Another inexplicable absence for things I ought to have posted by now, this commission from last year of a Humblewood campaign I was chaotically a part of. A fun little collage of styles, twas enjoyable.
Before a thatched, stone building a small befezzed mouse looks up at a series of wanted posters on the sun-dappled wall. From left to right they detail the escapades of the teeth-baring weasel Fritz, the Serval and Lynx duo Alia and Kenkak, an inexplicably friendly-looking axolotl Sal/Todd, the stoat with a weasley smile Viorel, and wing-for-a-cowl bat Saryn. Each poster is emblazoned with the crimes of kidnapping, bank robbery and a spread of other misdemeanours. We see the back of the mouse's head and his star-spangled cape as he stands between assorted wooden planks, barrels and a caterpillar-housing wheelbarrow.

Going back and archiving my nonsense, remembering when I used to have the energy and wherewithal to experiment more with styles. I thus stumbled upon this almost 6 year-old comic. Unlike most of my work at that time I still think this holds up, so you get to see it again. #OutliersComic
A black and yellow webcomic in the rubber-hose animation style of 'Bendy and the Ink Machine'. The title card reads "Why We Didn't Finish Bendy and the Ink Machine" below some dripping yellow and black goop. Four people are seen beneath the title: On the left the long-haired Emm lurches enthusiastically, wearing yellow overalls and a wide smile. Beside her the sharp-haired Malakhi holds his middle finger up, the bottom of frame cutting off his black cocktail dress and heels. Beside him the stone-masked Stoic gestures non-chalantly, his white tailed suit hidden from view. Finally on the right shrugs Rufus, with a big round beard, black suit and bow-tie.These four character run down a corridor towards the camera, away from a creepy smiling silhouette. Emm runs nervously, arms wobbling in the air, behind the terrified Rufus. Beside him Stoic jogs with no apparent urgency and arms folded, whilst Malakhi strides forward looking back angrily.
Malakhi: Quick! Run from the demons!
Stoic: Or homunculi.
Malakhi: Whatever!

Having escaped the demons or homunculi or whatever, the group stop to set their next plans. Rufus, in the middle, is not keeping track as Malakhi abruptly thrusts an axe into his hand and Stoic stands before him with a syringe and beating heart.
Malakhi: Here's an axe! Attack the watermelons!
Rufus: The w-
Stoic: I require six inked hearts acquired using this syringe.
Rufus: Uh...Still carrying the axe and syringe, the confused Rufus is now being handed yet more nonsense by Malakhi and Stoic:
Malakhi: Beardo! Quick! Use this shard of glass with a lightbulb on it. It's magic or something!
Stoic: Create a facsimile of pipework and cogs using only this ink tumor.
Malakhi: Don't forget the banjo!

Now loosely holding a plethora of junk in his arms, Rufus looks to his side to see Emm nervously leaning in and sticking a plunger to his head with a loud 'PLOP'We zoom out to see everyone but Rufus and his pile of nonsense have left. He stands in the silence for a beat.

Rufus: Can somebody please explain literally anything?

In celebration of my drawing tablet malfunctioning for a whole month, I thought I'd finally get around to posting the first comic I drew and 'inked' (see 'drew over with a random fineliner') on paper. I've gotten more practise since then, so perhaps a retrial is in order. #OutliersComic
A four-panel comic strip set in an autumnal park, as four people walk through decked in warm clothing, carrying presents. Ahead Cat sings the song 'California Dreaming', her brother Malakhi trailing the pack, offering the call-and-response backing lyrics with slight modifications.
Cat: All the leaves are brown~
Mal: [Pointing at Rufus] All his clothes are brown!
Cat: And the sky is grey~
Mal: [Pointing at the monochrome Stoic] And this guy is greeeeeey!
Cat: I've been for a walk
Mal: [Punching the air on each syllable] I've! Been! For! A! Walk!
Cat: On a winter's day~
Mal: On Emm Winters' daaaaaay!!
At this last line the group arrive at a table where a scruffy lady Emm Winters is wearing party favours, sat behind a waffle-tower cake and small pile of aforementioned presents. Mal wraps his arms around her for this last line as she blows a party blower into the air.

One day I'll have a consistent posting schedule, but until then I'll keep intermittently floating on my backlog of newsletter comics. In today's entry Jay makes a ghoulish discovery as Kay deals with both them and poorly-written recipes. #OutliersComic
A comic strip with two characters in a minimalist orange kitchen. Blonde-haired Kay stands in front of a stove shaking spices into a saucepan. Behind them lurks his partner Jay peeking out behind their dark curtain of hair, peering over Kay's shoulder with phone brandished in hand.
Jay: Baaaaaaabe... Have you ever heard of porphyria?
Kay: Mmm...They're one of your screamy bands?
Jay: Oh no, it's a disease.
Kay: Lovely...
As Jay checks their phone, Kay checks a recipe book
Jay: It causes pale skin, receding gums, sensitivity to sunlight...
Kay: Sounds nasty...
Jay: But, like, *vampires*! That's where a bunch of vampire lore comes from!
Kay, definitely paying attention, twists his recipe book upside down to make sense of it.
Kay: Huh, sure. Makes sense...
Jay: Right!? It's mostly a hereditary thing, but some types can be brought on by excess iron in the liver, and...
Kay, pouring spice into the saucepan having abandoned the recipe, replies without looking at Jay
Kay: I'm not giving you iron poisoning.
Jay Ugh!! You're no fun!!

Sully, my character for a pokémon rpg I'm doing with friends, has a chronic case going on of 'looking cooler than they actually are'.
A character in pokémon art style crouched down, they are wearing a crobat hat and overal has a poison-theming with purple, black and green against a purple and green background. The letters say Sully, as is the character's name.

Another self-indulgent OC doodle-grid from a little while back, with prompts foraged from somewhere online I cannot trace back to. Either way my friends yelled at me for getting emotional at this one, so you have been warned.
A purple-toned 3-by-3 grid of scribbly character portraits, columns and rows labelled to form sentences as given from top-bottom, left-right:
"Jokes on you, I don't value myself" shows a slightly melancholy Malakhi looking upwards dismissively whilst scrunching his mouth, as if dismissing the prompt.
"You underestimate how much I value myself" shows Kay reaching an arm into Malakhi's box, putting a hand on his shoulder in support. Beneath his scraggly mop-top his expression seems more reassuring than Mal's.
"Unfortunately I was taught not to value myself" sees the construct January and human Emm, the latter smooshing her face into the former's head, both wild hairdos intertwining. Emm wraps her arms around Jan as they lean in with a content smile.
"Jokes on you, I don't have a conscience" sees Claudio, a small rag doll, leaning against the bottom of the frame, resting his head on one hand. He stares at the viewer, either aggravated or bored.
"You underestimate how much I have a conscience" sees human Cat and construct February standing back-to-back. Cat looks back over her tousled hair with signature unimpressed stare toward February, returning with their signature gormless smile.
"Unfortunately I was taught not to have a conscience" sees Dane the wyrm leaning on the head of Luna the wolf-woman. Both look tired for their own reasons and neither seem happy to be awarded this category.
"Jokes on you, I don't forgive others" sees a trio of the masked Stoic, and construct siblings May and June, all glaring down judgementally at the viewer. Whatever you did I don't think you're getting away with it.
"You underestimate how much I forgive others" sees November reclining in their wheelchair, with a relaxed stare at the viewer, tilting to reach out a welcoming hand.
"Unfortunately, I was taught not to forgive others" sees the dramatically-lit Elle staring at the viewer with blank menace, holding aloft a small metal lighter illuminating the closer parts of her face.

Another comic from the newsletter archives, another written whilst daydreaming at a wedding. This time Kay gets to flex his rugby skills, much to Jay's chagrin. #OutliersComic
A four-panel comic. In a dark purple-tinted nightclub we see three people at a bar: Elle, in yellow dress and long brown hair, talks to Kay, in peach jacket with shaggy blonde hair, who holds the torso of his grumpy-looking partner Kay, wearing fishnet gloves and medium-length dark hair.
Elle: Oh Flower, how did the wedding go yesterday?
Kay: It was, umm... nice.
Elle: And did you end up using those rugby skills for the bouquet?
Kay: Uh...
We cut to the wedding, a gaggle of silhouetted guests are reaching up to catch a tossed bouquet. Kay leaps into the air, deftly grabbing it, as Jay looking up in surprise.
Moments later we see Kay land with a look of determination as he just as deftly tosses the bouquet behind him, much to the more stilted surprise of Kay.
Back at the bar Elle leans back, slapping the counter in laughter, pulling Kay into her.
Kay: It was just a reflex.
Jay: *Sure*...
Kay: I said I'm sorry...

A commission last year for @darksunrebel.bsky.social for his serval character Alia and her steed Kenkak. Pretty pleased with how this turned out, if a little rough around the hedges
In a verdant, sun-dappled forest stand two feline forms: Alia, an anthropomorphic Serval cloaked in a green cape and leather braces, stands alert upon the hollow of a fallen tree, bow drawn at the ready. Behind her large lynx steed Kenkak steps their fluffy paws ahead revealing their metal-clad head and back, resplendent with emerald-lined leather saddle.

A little detour into Avonvale for this newsletter comic, Remember when I made those? One of two little ideas I came up with whilst dissociating in a church, struggling to listen to some pre-wedding vow waffle. #Avonvale
A four-panel comic set in a bell tower. The first panel sees a robe-clad figure with a long snout and red scales tugging on a thick rope. A loud 'DONG' is elicited. Next up a second robe-clad figure with grassy green fur tugs a slightly smaller rope with their four arms. A moderate 'DING' is heard. Thirdly a non-robe-clad cloth golem Hercule tugs on a slender rope, eliciting a high-pitched 'Ching Ching'. We finally see the full scene of the two robed characters, holding ropes that reach up to the belfry, looking down at Hercule who holds the leg of Zig, a rope golem. Zig reaches up to the ceiling, ringing a small hand-bell which merrily chimes 'Ching Ching Ching'. They're joining in.

Still very behind on actually showing comics anywhere other than my website, so here's a 10-month old slice of domestic bliss with Jay & Kay. It also marks the early days of my recent struggles with colour and a not very successful attempt to control it. Cute though. #OutliersComic
In a dark room we see a very tired Jay wrapped in a purple blanked upon a cushion-strewn red sofa. They are illuminated by the light of the laptop they're dutifully tapping away at. Behind them approaches the blonde-haired Kay, clad in a pink nightgown.
Kay: Babe, come to bed. It's 2AM
Jay: There in a sec. I'm almost done.
Kay: You said that three hours ago.
Jay: Well... I'm still almost done.
Kay, knowing this is more than simply losing track of time, hitches up beside Jay on the sofa.
Kay: Okay, what's the problem?
Jay: It's just work. New client, stupid demands.
Kay: More specific. Please.
Jay: Well we need to overhaul their back-end, but it's not been updated since PHP 4.4, and there are deprecated functions everywhere, and the whole database was probably compromised by multi-source code-injection...
Kay: Slightly less specific, maybe.

Jay forlornly babbles, leaning forward and gesturing at their screen. Kay tried to comfort them with an arm around their shoulder.
Jay: ...and our *stupid* manager agreed to the project without asking any of the team if it was possible, and it's 3 months work *minimum* but she agreed the contract for 3 *weeks*, and we can't replace the whole boilerplate in that time, at best patch it, but it's more security vulnerability than it is code, but if the site dies after we've touched it *we're* the ones up the shitter-
Kay: Jay, you're spiralling. Deep breaths. Short sentences.
Jay spirals further, grappling with their laptop and it's power cord, seemingly oblivious to Kay's attempts to calm them.
Jay: But *listen*, we're already in trouble from the cache breach on the last job and if we lost this contract we're gonna *go under*, and I can't get a new job because the market fucking *sucks* right now, it's all tech-bros and *AI*, and I don't know what I'm gonna do if I can't provide for us, and *you're* gonna have to go back to your *parents*, and *I'm* gonna-
Kay pulls his arms in pulling the now shaking Jay closer to him. His other hand gently guides their chin into a soft kiss. Before long Jay begins to relax and deflate. Smoke rises from their head and the kiss continues. Kay quietly closes the screen of the laptop without looking as the two share a moment. Eventually the kiss is broken and a now dizzy, but smiling Jay queries their smiling boyfriend.
Jay: Oh, hey hun.
Kay: Hey babe.
Jay: What's going on?
Kay: Nothing. Just had to turn you off and on again.

Eventually the kiss is broken and a now dizzy, but smiling Jay queries their smiling boyfriend.
Jay: Oh, hey hun.
Kay: Hey babe.
Jay: What's going on?
Kay: Nothing. Just had to turn you off and on again.

A limerick. Based on a true story.
A drawing of my as my little troll avatar, working on comics at my desk. The limerick reads "There once was a man who drew comics, because art is one of life's tonics. He continued to draw in spite of the flaw that the practice was bad economics."

An example of a recent 'Roulette Commission' for a friend who asked for their irritable old-mouse character to be 'cantankerous'. Well, I'd been hankering to try a Hanna Barbera background for some time. They also got another of their characters as a bonus because self-control is for the profitable.
A digital drawing stylised to emulate a frame of the cartoon "Scooby Doo, Where Are You?". On a painterly backdrop of a blue-tinted stone-lined room with wooden panelling and rafters, two anthropomorphic mice stand. In the foreground, bound tightly in rope, stands Jitters, an old cantankerous mouse with grey fur and dark green robes with wide-brimmed wizard hat. He angrily calls out the captioned sentence "I would've gotten away with it too, if it weren't for your meddling kids!" Behind him stands Mickey (not that one) a young mouse holding up a recently pulled-off ghost mask (although how it fit over Jitters' hat I don't know). He stares incredulously, other hand on hip, leaning forward as his red cape drapes behind him. His red fez, green waistcoat and blue shorts should also be mentioned in a way that seems natural.

Commissions! I do them! Did you know? Probably not, because I frequently intimidate myself out of advertising them. Still they're open over on m'Ko-Fi for the specific tiers given here: Sketches, cartoony doodles, emotes and ✨Style Roulette✨. Higher tiers coming soon. ko-fi.com/crispyparsni...
On the middle of a purple-tinted hexagonal grid, the title 'Crispy's Ko-fi Commissions' stands emblazoned in yellow and brown. The hexagons in the top left show a variety of sketch commission examples, handily labelled 'Sketch'. The top-right hexagons contain colourful digital doodles with thick line-art, labelled 'Doodle'. In the bottom left a gaggle of expressive character faces colourfully fill in hexagons, labelled 'Emote'. Finally the bottom right shows a wider array of character illustrations varying in style, labelled 'Roulette'Titled 'Sketch Commissions' we see a variety of digital pencil-like illustrations shaded in monochrome and tinted a variety of colours. Beside them lie prices for their illustrative tiers:
Bust: £15 (approx. $20)
Waist: £22 (approx. $30)
Full: £30 (approx. $40)
+Character: +£15 (approx. +$20)
The hexagons beside this prices illustrate the tiers: A purple portrait of a smiling female teifling sits above a waist-up illustration of a whimsically smiling centaur and a full-bodied sketch of a recorder-blowing goblin with 'DOOT' emblazoned on their background. Below all of these we see a sketch of a harpy character wielding a spear, looking down at a small elf who crouches enthusiastically, pointing into the distance. In the top half, titled 'Doodle Commissions' we see prices for a few labelled tiers.
Base: £20 (approx. $25)
Shading: £10 (approx. $15)
+Character: £20 (approx. $25)
To the right of these several hexagons show example doodles, such as a quivering duck in a pink Hawaiian shirt, a lackadaisical skater-lizard, Final Fantasy IX's Freya blowing bubbles, a ghost on a ghostly motorcycle, and a very buff rat.
The lover half, titled 'Emotes', shows pricing per quantity of emote purchased
x1: £15 (approx. $20)
x2: £30 (approx. $40)
x3: £40 (approx. $55)
x6: £60 (approx. $80)
To the left of the prices is an irregular grid of hexagons containing example emotes, including someone pointing knowingly to their head whilst staring at the viewer, small wizard mouse shouting 'OOOOO', a crying character, a snoring wolf-woman, a buff character flexing their bicep, a giggling character, a character cheering with colourful pom-poms, an angry rag-doll, the wide eyes of an excited goblin, a grumpy character with their arms folded and an enthusiastic hedgehog shouting 'YES'The title 'Style Roulette Commissions' heads a list of criteria:
You Give: An OC, an adjective, £50 (approx. $70) - You Get: A mystery illustration of your OC in a style I think looks very cool indeed
