We are back from vacation. One of the books I read while away was An Indigenous People’s History of the United States, by Roxanne Dunbar-Ortiz. I would highly recommend this book, because it clearly portrays how settlers wrenched every plot of land away from people through violent domination.

Fourth of July: we had a dear friend over and made pizza. It felt like a non holiday and even a sad day with America’s political situation. Bonus, the dogs for the very first time were unfazed by the fireworks. They actually slept through them instead of experiencing sheer terror.

Fireworks can terrify and upset pets, wild animals, and those with ptsd. Yet, Americans still want fireworks to celebrate the 4th of July. I don’t like it when the majority resists adjusting a tradition, even when a reasonable argument is being made for change. That tendency itself is the problem.

My thought for the day: the US constitution was created when there were 2.5 million people. Now there are 340 million. The governors are doing the lions share of the actual day-to-day administration. Maybe instead of having one Congress, we could have regional congresses.
