Mercutio, by @kateheartfield.com, is so wonderfully weird! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The book somehow manages to effortlessly weave historical events and some of the world's best, most magical stories into something beautiful and terrifying but strangely plausible. I am so happy that I picked this one up! 📚🙂

When I was a kid, I found a perfectly round pond in the back woods of our farm that was completely covered with duckweed. I'd never seen it before. I threw a rock in, and where it hit there was a dark circle of water that then immediately closed with green. I was overwhelmed with the feeling that...

The 2-axis political alignment chart is pretty much useless since there's only 1 real "dimension" to politics Nobody's in the "socially liberal, economically conservative" corner The two dimensions are "government should help everyone" vs "government should lift people like me above everyone else"

One of my favourite movies of all time is "The Castle," which opens with "My name is Dale Kerrigan, and this is my story." Dale proceeds to narrate events that he was present for but had almost no active role in. Every ad or summary describes the plot as being about Dale's father. It's awesome.

When you shuffle a deck of cards and draw them, you don't draw any card twice until you draw all of the other cards or reset (reshuffle). If I set my music to play on shuffle, I don't want the same song to come up every second or third song.

I mean, the Gen AI companies have been intentionally muddying the waters about what is and isn't AI, and every supposedly ethical tech company has done a hard heel turn, I think people have a pretty good reason to be skeptical. I personally don't have the time or energy to investigate who is...

My concern on this front (I am not a lawyer) is that my understanding of IP law is that if someone does not protect their IP in known cases of infringement, they can lose the right to protect it in other cases of infringement.

No one is expecting the premier to mash out the Bixby letter on his iPhone. Yet we might expect more than this.

One of the worst things about streaming with ads is no humans appear to be in charge of placing the ad breaks. Even shows which originally had ad breaks, where there was an obvious break in the narrative for it, don't have the ad breaks put in those places now

The literacy crisis is not just referring to people's ability to literally read and write. It's also people's inability to read for context. I've been a public educator for over 20 years and I have never, ever seen it this bad.

DoorDash spent $1.4M trying to stop Zohran Mamdani from becoming mayor. This week's historic $131.5M enforcement action against DoorDash for underpaying NYC delivery workers shows why. Yet another reminder that the only thing that can beat organized money is organized people.

Said as a bad thing: "people increasingly view everything they do and create as property"--yeah I cannot fathom why people who are largely broke with less and less control over their lives, priced out of housing and groceries, might feel ownership of the things they create themselves. Total mystery.

By taxing the richest 0.3% of Canadians, some 133,000 people, we could raise $1 billion per year to go towards fixing our broken healthcare system, building affordable housing, or creating a national public grocery network to drive down the cost of groceries. No selling of our airports required.
