There is no argument that could be made in good faith that Brexit was—or ever could be—good for the UK. There is also no good faith argument that Brexit’s cheerleaders are in it for the good of the country. It really is that simple.

For 14yrs, the Tories cratered our economy, added thousands to our cost of living, melted down public services and brexited us into decades of eye-watering expense and lost opportunity. That’s still their plan. With tax breaks for the super rich paid for by welfare cuts. So what TF is this headline?

The damage of Brexit isn’t purely economic. Even worse is the toxic division. Brexiters pretending it’s a good thing because shifting the country further right serves them. Everyone else being expected to keep quiet and pretend that’s not what’s happening. www.theguardian.com/world/2026/o...

In short we need a centre right party. Not a Trumpist party. Which is Badenoch really offering?

Chris Dickenson @cpdickenson.bsky.social · 07/10/2026
We need a centre right party that’s standing against Trumpism and—unlike the Conservative Party from Cameron, through May, Johnson and Sunak—will try to win by honestly making its case rather than through the politics of scapegoating and distraction. Can’t see us getting that with Badenoch.

This is what his opponents need to say in challenging his efforts to drag the UK in the same direction as the US under Trump. In the reopened Brexit debate the issue isn’t just about rejoining the EU—it never was!—it’s about whether the country should be lurching further and further to the right
