Will Billboard Attacks Be Enough to Oust Portland's Progressives?
A smattering of new PACs are focused on billboards to influence the upcoming election. The main organizer behind them doesn't appear to be running the ship.

Jeremiah HaydenLocal political activist Kyle Prosen—also known as the drag queen comedian Poly Poptart—is behind three committees associated with the campaign, according to state records. He runs a brand new political action committee (PAC) called Ditch Mitch, another called Go PDX, and another called Fix MultCo.

BEAVERTON, Ore. — A federal lawsuit alleges a high school student athlete was raped in a hotel room while attending a Nike Elite Program for track and field in Beaverton.
The student athlete, 16, was invited by Nike and the National Scholastic Athletics Foundation, Inc.
(NSAF) to participate in the program over the Fourth of July weekend. The Nike Elite Program's website describes it as a "groundbreaking program to empower" 40 of the nation's top high school track and field athletes; 20 male and 20 female athletes were invited.LAWSUIT FILED

In 2012, U.S. Department of Justice sued the City of Portland, because the Portland Police Bureau violated its own use of force policies, (and it’s STILL in violation of). Over the last 10 years in total, PPB has cost Portland taxpayers $22.6 million in wrongful death & excessive force settlements.

Police settlements in use-of-force cases have cost Portlanders millions

by Keaton Thomas, KATU Staff
Thu, November 5, 2020 at 6:12 PM
Updated Fri, November 6, 2020 at 9:23 AMPortland Copwatch maintains a list of the top 25 police settlements dating back to 1993.
According to their database, the city has paid out roughly $12 million.
A police bureau spokesperson, Sgt. Kevin Allen, pointed KATU News to a city policy requiring additional internal review should a use-of-force
case result in a liability from a civil trial.
KATU News asked Commissioners Jo Ann Hardesty and Chloe Eudaly, who have been intimately involved with recent discussions on reforming police, for an interview. They did not grant one.
A spokesperson for Mayor Ted Wheeler, Jim Middaugh, said the city is a large and complicated organization. Funds paid in settlements are part of the cost of defending the city and Middaugh said settlements are often less expensive than going to trial. The settlements approved Thursday add to the mounting legal costs incurred by the city over complaints involving PPB. Over the past five years, the city has paid out more than $18.8 million to resolve nearly 900 lawsuits against the Police Bureau. The latest payouts bring that total to $22.6 million. The legal settlements approved last week will be paid out of the city’s insurance and claims fund.

ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE
Artificial Intelligence has expanded rapidly over the past few years, leaving our grid bogged down by LLM data centers.
The environmental impact as the industry balloons is also nothing short of devastating. Tech companies enjoy tax breaks while their data centers burn through our clean water, poison the environment, and raise utility costs for residents.
Media credibility has become murky, and intellectual property theft is so common, it's expected. The ethical concerns deepen as
Al generators are used for everything imaginable, from political smear campaigns to everyday people having their likeness used in explicit content without their consent. Elon
Musk's Grok have been used to strip people (including children) of their right to consent and privacy by removing their clothing.
Now Al is being used in the unconstitutional war we are waging in Iran on Israel's behalf, and is being used in mass-surveillance efforts across the nation.
This system is not only enabling the creation of CSAM (child sexual abuse materials) and other digital sexual abuse content, but is also actively generating it.With Grok's Law, I plan to fight hard for Al regulations to get rid of intellectual property theft, expand personal protections, limit use of Al in war and surveillance, and work to regulate data centers so they have to address their environmental and grid impacts.

Problem
For 75+ years, Palestinians have lived under occupation, displacement, and denial of basic human rights.
This is not a "conflict of equals."
This is a militarized system that perpetuates domination and creates an escalating humanitarian crisis.
The Human Toll
• 25,000+ Palestinians killed in recent assaults in Gaza
• Thousands are still missing under rubble.
• 7,000+ children killed — families erased
• 60,000 injured, many without care
• 1.9 million displaced — 85% of Gaza's population
• 500,000 people are facing famine due
to the blockade
• Homes, hospitals, schools, power stations were destroyed.Occupation & Apartheid
• Gaza has been sealed by an air, sea, and land blockade since 2007
• The West Bank is cut apart by:
• Armed settlements
• Roadblocks
• Military raids
• Home demolitions
• Arrest without charge
• Palestinians live under two legal systems — one for settlers, one for them.

Al & ENERGY
Problem
AI and data centers are rapidly accelerating their massive electricity and water consumption, posing urgent challenges for Oregon's infrastructure, environment, and communities.
Electricity
• Globally, data centers use about 415 terawatt-hours annually, with U.S. use reaching 176 terawatt-hours.
• In the U.S., use hit 176 terawatt-hours in 2023 (4-5 percent of national demand).
• Energy demand is projected to double or triple by 2028.
• In Oregon, data centers already use about 11 percent of statewide electricity.
Oregon's power mix:
• 42 percent hydropower
• 38 percent natural gas
• 15 percent wind
• The remainder is solar, geothermal, and biomass.Result: Without rules, more data centers = more gas plants, higher rates, grid strain, and pressure on rivers.
Water
• U.S. data centers used ~17 billion gallons per year for cooling.
• The Dalles example: Google consumed so much water that the city tried to hide usage through NDAs and lawsuits.
Model Training + Use
• Training one GPT-scale model required about 1,287 megawatt-hours and 500-550 tons of CO2.
• Inference — everyday user requests — now consumes most of the energy, estimated at 60 percent of total AI use.
• A single AI query uses multiple times the energy of a standard web search.Solutions
1. Mandatory transparency
Require large AI companies and data centers to publicly report:
• Annual and peak electricity use
• Energy sources and emissions
• Total water withdrawals and cooling needs
• Environmental impact of large training runs
• Estimated energy per user/inference on public models
• Tie the federal incentives to no NDAs with local governments.
Result: Communities can plan - and say no to harmful projects.2. Clean energy requirements
Condition future data center projects on:
• New renewable generation added to the grid (not just credits)
• Independent emissions verification
• Real decarbonization timelines
Use federal funds to:
• Expand transmission
• Add storage
• Enable flexible load shifting.
Result: AI growth does not cannibalize
Oregon's clean energy progress.
3. Water protections
Establish:
• Federal water efficiency standards for cooling
• Drought and watershed risk disclosures

Policy Priorities
Apply human rights standards to all military aid.
U.S. assistance must comply with international law and the Leahy Laws, which prohibit aid to units committing human rights violations.
End blank-check military aid.
All security assistance should be conditioned on compliance with human rights obligations.
Support free speech and civil liberties.
Americans should never be punished for participating in peaceful political movements like boycotts.
Address the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
Credible evidence shows Israel's military campaign in Gaza has resulted in catastrophic civilian harm and credible allegations of genocide.
The United States must support an immediate ceasefire, humanitarian access, and a diplomatic resolution that ensures security and dignity for both Israelis and Palestinians.

Israel
Summary
During her tenure in Congress, Suzanne Bonamici has voted to provide over $52 billion in military aid to Israel, a religious state. I believe this is in violation of the U.S. Constitution's separation of church and state. As your representative, I will vote against military aid to any religious state.
Suzanne Bonamici asserts that she wants a two-state solution for peace. "
The two-state solution
has been pursued for thirty years, to no avail.
There is no Palestinian State, there is no peace, and both the Israeli Government as well as the US Government have rejected the creation of a Palestinian State. It is bad policy to keep doing the same thing which has failed for 32 years, hoping for a different result.
As your representative, I will be ready with new ideas and different approaches to bring peace to the region. However, a necessary condition for peace is Israel (and other countries in the region) must treat all individuals under its control with equality, regardless of religion.Does every person born in areas of long-term Israeli control have equal rights under Israeli law, regardless of their religion?
• As long as the answer is no, Palestinians and Israelis will continue to become more extreme, and there will be no peace.
• Once the answer is yes, Hamas will lose its claimed purpose for existence and there will eventually be peace. Rather, Hamas will lose its ability to recruit people willing die fighting Israel.
As your representative, I will vote against any bill that provides Military Aid to Israel, until the answer to the above question is yes. Israel deserves a grace period to implement equality.
They have had 59 years. Time is up.

Jamil Ahmad | D1 - • Data Centers: Ahmad is running against Susan Bonamici, and he has an interesting outlook on Data Centers, and their impact on energy bills, water usage, the environment as a whole, etc… and thinks Data Centers should be heavily regulated. 👇🏾 …
Federal
At the federal level, all options for regulation need to be explored. I believe that Congress has the authority to regulate data centers as they affect the following:
Watersheds (particularly those which span more than one state)
• Electrical grids
• Commerce
• National securityOregon example
In The Dalles, we have the following:
1. Data center wants to keep its water usage secret (claims it is a "trade secret")
2. City sides with data center and fights journalists from disclosing the water usage.
3. Interestingly, the data center paid the legal bills for the city's fight.
https://www.govtech.com/analytics/the-dalles-ore-
settles-lawsuit-over-google-data-centers
Note that different phases of the project received the following tax incentives:
County level enterprise zone subsidies
Oregon level rural enterprise-zones & electronic commerce operations.
Sate level Strategic Investment Program
State and Local Solutions
End subsidies for Data Centers In 2012, the Oregon Legislature specifically allowed Data Centers in "enterprise zones" to be (partially) exempt from (tax) assessment via SB1532:
https://apps.oregonlegislature.gov/liz/2012R1/Me
asures/Overview/SB1532
The Oregon Legislature needs to (essentially) reverse SB1532 (2012)Regulate data center's use of utilities
The Oregon legislature was very efficient at subsidized data centers via legislation (14 years ago). We should expect them to be equally efficient at regulating data centers.
Public utility usage is NOT a "trade secret"
Oregon's Public Records Law (ORS 192.311 - ORS 192.478) needs to be updated so that public utility usage cannot be claimed as a "trade secret". The word "public" (utility), by definition, is the opposite of the word (trade) "secret"
Federal Solutions
Currently, federal law requires Federal Environmental Impact studies in limited cases (i.e. when Federal funds are used). Privately funded projects are generally not required to perform an Environmental Impact Study.
The laws need to be changed. The Federal Government needs to enforce regulation over projects (including data centers) that affect the following:
• Watersheds (particularly those which span more than one state)
• Electrical grids
• Commerce
• National securityWatersheds
From a technical perspective, evaporative cooling systems for data centers need to be phased out.
These systems are where (essentially) water is continuously fed in, heated and then evaporated.
Other options with less environmental impact need to be used.
Legally, we need to put as many barriers to installing large scale evaporative cooling systems as possible. We need to set a water use threshold, and require an Environmental Impact Study for all projects which exceed that threshold.
Electrical grids
There is no way to operate a data center without energy. My objective is not to regulate how much energy a data center uses. My objective is to ensure that it is properly planned and paid for by the data center company with no adverse effect to other customers. If a data center needs 100 MW of power, then they need to pay the fair price for both the energy and the infrastructure to generate and transmit that energy. As with water usage, a threshold needs to be set (above which an Environmental Impact Study is triggered).

You’re a dork, my guy. Here’s a direct quote from Tom Dundon. He directly contradicts all of your dumb fear mongering. Which, btw, even if he wanted to move the Blazers out of Portland, he needs 3/4ths approval from the board of governors of the NBA to approve that move. Did you not know that?
On the subject of moving the Blazers out of Portland:
"When I bought the Hurricanes, all I heard
— because I was from Texas — we were going to move the team to Houston. Moving a team is difficult. We didn't move the Hurricanes. We ended up getting a deal done. We went through the same thing in Portland. Before I even bought the team, I had an agreement with the city and the state. We had an agreement in principle.
They've already approved half of it.
Assuming that all gets done, then this is a non-story. For me, it's never been really a thing. We didn't buy the team to move it. We bought the Portland Trail Blazers."

The city of Charlotte just finished major renovations to the Spectrum Center, home to the Charlotte Hornets. The $245 million renovation was entirely paid for by the city, and the agreement commits the team to the arena until at least 2045. Raleigh's Lenovo Center is home to the Carolina Hurricanes, the NHL team Dundon purchased in 2018.
That arena is in the process of a publicly funded $300 million renovation, negotiated by Dundon, that locks the Hurricanes into a 20-year lease and gives Dundon the rights to develop some 80 acres around the arena.

Raihana Ansary, Wilson's deputy chief of staff, joined two other Portland employees on the city-paid trip: Donnie Oliveira, deputy city administrator for community and economic development, and Lisle.

OMG! So the USS Gerald R. Ford, the U.S. largest, most expensive aircraft carrier en route to Iran, has been stalled. Why? Because of plumbing issues. Apparently the crew are deliberately clogging the toilets in an effort to stave off WWIII! This explains the last minute talks. Bro, WUTT??? 🤣
USS Gerald R. Ford's toilet crisis drags on amid deployment near Iran: The U.S. Navy's largest and most expensive aircraft carrier is facing persistent plumbing problems that have left large portions of its bathroom system out of action while the ship remains deployed amid rising tensions linked to Iran. 2 days agoAccording to Wang, prolonged deployment at sea undermines crew morale and mental well-
being, thereby weakening combat effectiveness.
Moreover, malfunctions in the Ford's toilet system itself further amplified the problem.
Crew members throwing objects into the toilets also exposes lax discipline within the ranks.
Wang explained that vacuum sewage systems are in fact an advanced technology and are widely used on most commercial vessels today.
However, they depend on strict compliance with operating regulations by crew members.
When personnel are subjected to prolonged, high-intensity readiness tasks, their mental state inevitably changes, making it difficult to maintain strict discipline over an extended period, Wang said.NBC News
