My hope is that this framework, although imperfect, can act as a starting point to encourage future dialogue. So please don't hesitate to reach out with any thoughts! I would love to hear them! Thank you @declankdevlin.bsky.social for sharing!

I propose a 3-level framework that clarifies ways of conceptualising mechanisms and encourages their integration: • Micro-level: a process-oriented perspective • Relational level: on associations between variables • Macro-level: a theory-oriented perspective

Are you studying underlying mechanisms? I recently started and struggled with what exactly a mechanism was and how to research it. I wrote a theoretical statement aiming to clarify how we conceptualise mechanisms, which is now in press @ Journal of Numerical Cognition doi.org/10.23668/psy...

These findings echo the debate in adult research raised by Rey-Mermet et al. (2018), suggesting that results based on a single inhibition paradigm cannot be generalised to other paradigms.

CoolenIlse @coolenilse.bsky.social · 03/02/2026
We found no support for a unitary inhibition construct. Instead, the stop-signal task (SST) was related to symbolic arithmetic in both 5- and 7-year-olds. In contrast, the flanker task was related to non-symbolic maths, but only in 7-year-olds.

New open access paper in @jcgntn.bsky.social: bit.ly/4bt2D8Q! We developed and validated an open-source cognitive control test battery (bit.ly/4ql9gyP), using a transparent, open science approach. We worked on this for 6 (!!) years, with many lab members, so I'm thrilled to see this published.

I've used Lavaan almost every (work)day for 15 years, but this open source labour of love has never received proper institutional support. I'm delighted to be a small part of an 1.5M OpenScienceNL award, led by Jorgensen, to completely revamp and futureproof Lavaan www.openscience.nl/en/news/45-p...

I’m looking for a study where someone has looked at accuracy on Raven’s matrices (or similar) items under extreme time pressure at the item level (not time pressure at the test level). I can’t find anything, but surely this study must exist?

This was confirmed by the lack of age differentiation (cross-sectional and longitudinal) and ability differentiation between both constructs; meaning that their indistinguishable construct is stable across age, time, and ability in 4-8-year-old children.
