Grim grim grim. An obscure academic appointment that Cambridge University made into national news to congratulate themselves, thus making the later plagiarism scandal into a public trial of Black scholarship, possibly now resulting in the death of a father of two.

fascinatingly* the French news is translating "Count Binface" as « le Compte Tête-de-Poubelle » rather than « Visage-de-Poubelle) which is, in fairness, more accurate (his entire head is a bin, not just his face) typical British media not asking the important underlying questions * ta gueule
Screenshot from Le Parisien. A photo of Count Binface, a man in a sort of black Darth Vader suit but with a silvery grey cape and a bin on his head with eye slit and mouthhole.

Headline:

Funny that Starmer is such an empty man that he gave beating factional opponents and expunging progressive thought within the Labour party equal weight to the few actually good things his government has done, like lifting the benefit cap. Good riddance!

Though Saeta and FIFA have not said publicly said what design element in the men’s official World Cup soccer kits prompted FIFA’s, a source told the Miami Herald that it’s the illustration of the Nov. 18, 1803, Bataille de Vertières with the Haitian flag embedded on the jerseys, which the team wore during their two warmup matches in South Florida last week.

Not cool to require PhD students to do, say, a week's worth of unpaid work on an 'application dossier' and harass four separate superiors for various supporting statements. All for a <1% chance of acceptance. No thanks!

Given that there is effectively no funding for the fourth year of PhDs, it's really fortunate that your living costs suddenly vanish at this point. Rent, food, bills – all magically reduced to zero. This is doubly convenient as it frees up money to pay 'continuation fees', which kick in now too

Aside from the moral bankruptcy of once more pulling up the drawbridge to HE, does anyone actually think doing the Treasury's dirty work for it will save us? Their policy is simply 'spend as little money as possible whatever the consequences'. Precisely zero additional money will be freed up by this

The skull-cup, fashioned from a sawn-off and polished braincase adorned with a silver rim and stand, was used regularly at formal dinners at Worcester College, Oxford, until 2015, according to Prof Dan Hicks, the curator of world archaeology at the university’s Pitt Rivers Museum.
