the reason “AI will create so much abundance we will have a utopian society” rhetoric falls so flat is that the people building it will never, ever share their bounty unless it is taken from them and we all know it

Wouldn't it be weird if the racist billionaire who bankrolled and took credit for the neo-Nazi victory in Germany was somehow involved in American politics too? Can you even imagine? I bet the media would have a field day asking politicians who aligned with him and took his money for statements!

I dunno much about Maness or Anderson but Schlicter is a straight-up fascist who wants to among other things "use the law to ensure blue submission" and "imprison dissenters" to achieve the aim, "force them to be like us."
2021 Schlicter posts:

For too long red state conservatives have offered to live and let live with blue state liberals but the blues are evangelical Marxists who cannot allow us to provide a counter example of freedom. 1/

So, no more. We must, by any means necessary, force them to be like us. No quarter. No compromise. 2/

Ban CRT, Marxism and anti-American misinformation. Nationalize big tech and academia and mandate conservatism as their operational ideology. Ban leftist media and entertainment from spreading misinformation.3

Penalize barren, non-familial lifestyles through taxes and disqualification from political participation. Establish property and military service qualifications for voting. Increase America’s carbon footprint. Ban masks. Dismantle unions.n4/

Use the law to ensure blue submission. Imprison dissenters. Force them to act against their deepest beliefs to keep their jobs. End all social programs and deport all illegals. Outlaw crime again. 5/

Tough for those teams for sure but they still exist for a reason. What does it matter if you’re perpetually bad in MLS?
010
Dale @comtnguy.bsky.social · 16/07/2026
Sure but the net is that we develop players to be about the 15th best nation in the world. And the gulf between 15 and 5th best nation, let alone top 2-3, is massive. How many wrexhams would there be in US if we have pro/rel? I think quite a few and it would push the bigger clubs to be better.
000
Dale @comtnguy.bsky.social · 16/07/2026
They play in a highly competitive league because teams do have to worry about relegation so they have to if they want to win league and/or qualify for European tournaments
000
Dale @comtnguy.bsky.social · 16/07/2026
Do you think that both MLS and ECNL being closed monopolistic systems is good for the competitive environment and creates proper incentives to develop players (and coaches)?
100
Dale @comtnguy.bsky.social · 16/07/2026
My wording could have been more precise, they invest, but not to the level of European clubs (and not just the big clubs). Why would they?
200
Dale @comtnguy.bsky.social · 16/07/2026
They’d have more profit motive if it actually mattered if they produced a good team and won or lost games.
000
Dale @comtnguy.bsky.social · 16/07/2026
But the bigger issue is that the MLS (and ECNL) is a monopoly. MLS teams have little incentive to actually develop good players. No rel & most make playoffs. So they don’t invest money in developing/scouting. And no one with different ideas/approach can compete with them because it’s a monopoly

Dale @comtnguy.bsky.social · 16/07/2026
I think it is very untrue that selling homegrown players is a “huge“ part of their business model. I don’t disagree that they are selling more players than they have in the past but it is still a small part of their economics.
210
Dale @comtnguy.bsky.social · 16/07/2026
What incentives do MLS clubs have to run a good academy? Very little. Until the ecosystem is opened through pro/rel we’ll be treading water.

Dale @comtnguy.bsky.social · 14/07/2026
Is this real??
000
Dale @comtnguy.bsky.social · 10/07/2026
I don’t think we’re at Switzerland’s level yet. We play them 10 times, how many do we win. Maybe 3? They’re a little older now but Xhaka and Akanji would be by far the best players US players in US history if they were Americans
000
Dale @comtnguy.bsky.social · 10/07/2026
I just think the US is far from having a big pool of competent players. Yes, it is bigger than in the past but we don’t have a single player that is a key player for a top club team, let alone many
100
Dale @comtnguy.bsky.social · 10/07/2026
Agree that countries that produce a lot of competent players results in more stars on average because they have bigger pool that could turn (“luck”) into stars.
000
Dale @comtnguy.bsky.social · 10/07/2026
I was saying comparing talent levels to old US teams is a low bar, because it is. And I don’t agree that dumping money into a sport means you’re doing everything right. People waste money on all sorts of dumb stuff
000
Dale @comtnguy.bsky.social · 10/07/2026
Rarely do countries “luck” into a real star. Most stars come from countries with better soccer structures. They just have a lot of irons in the fire and some hit. We won’t luck into a real star unless we find someone who grows up in Europe with connection to US and he decides to play with US
100
Dale @comtnguy.bsky.social · 10/07/2026
I don’t disagree but it was a low bar. Do we have a single player that would play for a top 8-10 team? And Poch wouldn’t even play more than 12-13 players because the depth so bad. I’m a US fan but we have a long way to go and no one is willing to make the structural changes to get us there
200
Dale @comtnguy.bsky.social · 10/07/2026
The US could beat a top team on any given day but the talent disparity between the US and top footballing countries remains massive

I forget, has Italy won a World Cup?
000
Dale @comtnguy.bsky.social · 10/07/2026
Nothing will materially change until the MLS monopoly is changed and the ecosystem is opened. No one in US soccer system (from ECNL to MLS) has real incentive to develop players so unfortunately we’re stuck until that changes.
000
Dale @comtnguy.bsky.social · 10/07/2026
The article hints at the real issue but somehow misses the obvious conclusion. The issue is the system, and the fact that it is a closed system (monopoly) at the professional level and there is no incentive for them to change. The USSF (controlled by MLS) won’t do anything to fix it so we’re stuck
000
Dale @comtnguy.bsky.social · 09/07/2026
The closed MLS system is why we don’t develop enough top players. And we never will until the ecosystem is opened
100
Dale @comtnguy.bsky.social · 09/07/2026
Whatever the case, he’s rarely fit to play
000
Dale @comtnguy.bsky.social · 09/07/2026
Unfortunately whoever is coach doesn’t really matter until the soccer ecosystem is opened. Until then the national team will just be varying degrees of bad
000
Dale @comtnguy.bsky.social · 08/07/2026
I’m sure he has no interest in coming back to coach these players so the point is moot
010
Dale @comtnguy.bsky.social · 07/07/2026
The manager wasn’t the problem. The players and the federation (ie the MLS) are the problem.
